I've just recently started buying vintage stereo gear.

Well, I've always had some vinyl. Some years back, I bought a direct drive turntable to play them again. Recently, I went a little nutty and bought a vintage walkman. That led to a co-worker giving me a couple of old tape decks, and now I'm selling some stuff to facilitate a better tape deck, an amp and some speakers. It's a damn slippery slope.

EDIT: Oh, and don't forget the stupid expensive headphones on my amazon wish list right now.

You aren't kidding, man. There are cables that cost more than my Crockett frame.

I believe they recently published a study that showed the fancy pricey cables did not sound any different from the budget ones. I wonder if our resident golden eared WhyFi has any comments on that.

And then you also have to wonder what their definition of budget is.

My wife showed me a fashion page from Family Circus magazine where they showed great fall "budget" fashion items. It included a $200 scarf. WTF?

He will. It's an interesting path to travel. At one point, I had a pile of money in a Hi-Fi.

I heard that they compared fancy pricey cables to a wire hanger and the listeners could not discern the difference in a blind listening test. I have not read said article but wire hangers are truly dirt cheap.

I'm staying out of this expensive cable discussion. No one wants to read me comparing them to Rapha. ;)

I wish it was a matter of just sourcing the money myself. Hell, I could buy it and she would never know where the money came from or went. I'll get her there in time. Maybe the 2017 Mr Pink will have a paint scheme I like more anyway...

The way I see it, you are well and truly behind the eight ball. The thing is, by the time she comes around to it, she will have spent over a grand on her own trinkets, and still have you dangling, begging even, in 2017.

Fortunately, I don't have such problems. I just budget to spend twice the amount, so she gets something similar or the same, too.

Oh man... You asked for it. I finally splurged on the Brevet jersey during the last sale. It is the nicest wool jersey I've ever put on. It's straight perfect. It's seriously good stuff, even at full price, but I have to wait for the sales.

While I was typing my post and reading yours, they were on the news on the TV. About new legislation.

If you say you don't want one, I'll swear to it. Either way.

Found it.

Audiophile Deathmatch: Monster Cables vs. a Coat Hanger

RPK79 10-19-15 03:23 PM

The office ordered six new chairs in to replace most of our chairs. No one was stepping up to put them together so I just spent the last two hours doing *gasp* manual labor!

The whole RC thing is just an expensive hobby to start talking to my wife about. I don't really have interest in it.

I did sailplanes for awhile... from grad school until maybe age 30 or so. Was not terribly expensive, could not be given my finances at the time.

I used to be a bit of a sound snob myself. Then you realize you're sinking a ton of money into something and all of your friends just want to stream spotify anyway, so what's the point. Those same friends also love to point out how much worse spotify sounds on your system over their cheap sound bar that they got at walmart for $30...uh yeah, it sounds worse, you're streaming crap quality internet radio on a system that is made to hear every detail from the music. Blah!

I was in to IDPA and USPSA combat pistol shooting in the late 90s, early 2000s. Talk about spending a ton of money. The zillion $ guns were the cheapest part of the hobby. :)

That reminds me a lot of why I quit journalism and photography.

It's a pointless discussion on a forum, just as bad as "cf vs..." on BF.
