I wouldn't pass on all Panasonics. If I saw one of these in my size, there's no telling what I might do ;)

Wonder Woman spokes = super aero and light!

Here it is further along in the process... still needs some work:

...actually not a bad price for all the work that it says has been done to it. Unfortunately, ads written by flippers like this guy tend to gloss over the original mid range nature of this bike when new, as well as to attempt to sell a midline component group as something chi-chi because it's original. I generally try to avoid the florid language guys, and white bar tape on some flipper bike in a CL ad is usually a deal breaker for me.

I figure i'm gonna strip the whole thing down to parts, clean it all and relube and assemble it anyway, so much of the work that claims to have been done is wasted on me.

It often turns out that some of the essential overhaul stuff like the BB has been skipped in order to concentrate on new tyres and white saddle and bar tape.

Some of the nicer Panasonics were contract built for and branded as Schwinn, like this one, which is a fine rider:

Aww shucks, BB30 is such a great vintage of whine.

Gee, people have long memories. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I have one myself.

I've been tempted by those, but I'm equally tempted by the convenient size of the Squeeze Link. I'd probably drill a hole in it and put it on my keychain :)

Actually, I'd probably just get another pair of robogrips before dedicated link pliers.

The Squeeze Link design looks like it would be ideal for touring. As I said in that relevant Touring thread, a bit of metal, a drill press, a hacksaw and a file would get you one.

That's very close. I ride within a block of there sometimes.

But since my body has a tough time fitting stock geometry, and also since I already have one of each type of road bike (Ti, CF, Al, Classic steel, and SS), I don't bother looking for more trouble.

The problem with Panasonics and many other similar brands is that you rarely see a high end one because they mostly sold run of the mill stuff.

Wait a minute. Looks like another case of the "is it blue or is it gold dress". Is that really the same bike?

I saw that. Lord knows what compelled me to read a touring thread about chain service, but there I was, reading it. It's a stupid simple design. If I had thought of it first, I could draw up a version in CAD, and get like 100 made for stupid cheap. But I don't want to steal that guy's thunder.

Hot.

WalksOn2Wheels 10-02-15 07:05 AM

So in a strange turn of events, I was unable to wake up early this morning because I was too stinking tired. I got up just early enough and forced myself to get my shizzle together and ride the bike to work.

Totally worth it.

It was like 55 this morning. Just a week ago, morning temps were in the mid-70's and stupid humid. I was just a little under dressed, but not so much that I couldn't do the 6 miles. My ears started to hurt towards the end. But yeah, I love the cooler weather. I guess I'll have to dig out my knee and arm warmers soon.

EDIT: I just looked it up. It was actually 52 when I left the house. I probably should have at least worn my winter hat.
