But since my body has a tough time fitting stock geometry, and also since I already have one of each type of road bike (Ti, CF, Al, Classic steel, and SS), I don't bother looking for more trouble.

On the other hand, the "6'3" and 52cm" thread makes me think I could ride that bike if I timtak it....

Aren't you supposed to be healing people?

Unfortunately, ads written by flippers like this guy tend to gloss over the original mid range nature of this bike when new, as well as to attempt to sell a midline component group as something chi-chi because it's original. I generally try to avoid the florid language guys, and white bar tape on some flipper bike in a CL ad is usually a deal breaker for me.

I figure i'm gonna strip the whole thing down to parts, clean it all and relube and assemble it anyway, so much of the work that claims to have been done is wasted on me.

It often turns out that some of the essential overhaul stuff like the BB has been skipped in order to concentrate on new tyres and white saddle and bar tape.

Some of the nicer Panasonics were contract built for and branded as Schwinn, like this one, which is a fine rider:

Nice Peloton. The paint theme makes me think it's the same year as my Traveler.

About once/week I am assigned "walk-in" duty and in between these acute visits I sometimes have a couple spare minutes to visit you knuckleheads.

Looks the same to me.

I call it "lancing," not timtaking ,but lance only at your peril, or rather only if you are slim, because lancing (timtaking) your bike is a good way of staying slim but not a good way of getting slim due to the danger of breaking your steerer tube. As you get slimmer, increase the length and downward angle of your stem, such that you enjoy being slim, and cutting through the wind. This provides a major incentive for remaining slim. But if you are not slim then you willl not be able to enjoy the merits of a lanced (timtaked) stem because your belly will get in the way, and more, you may break your steerer tube. I put very little weight on my bars these days because my stem is lanced, my saddle horizontal, my belly small, and I get down so low that my back is horizontal.

Lance (timtak) carefully.

One day I will post a picture of all my stems. I did not go from a 9cm stem to a 15cm trial bike stem in one increment. My stems got longer as I got thinner resulting no increase in weight on my bars (78kg-> 63kg alongside 10-15cm stem)

If you are slim to start off with then get a bike with a long top tube and Cobb your stem.

Depends.

I usually use RoboGrips, but I seem to have misplaced mine.

Had to use needlenose pliers last time. Uggh, that was terrible.

Sometimes I can unsnap quicklinks by hand but I'm not so good at that.

I have the Park Tools Master Link Tool, but that little thing would be handy in a seat bag. Not going to get it though...

I know your style and approach have been discussed in other places, so I won't necessarily argue with what works for you.

But I am going to stick with my current approach. You certainly are among the select BFers whose name has become a verb. It's an honor to have you visit us here.

When I was camping in the SD Badlands one of the other campers had a Panasonic very similar to that.

Despite the tiki libations the night prior, Heathpack is up early theme-parking it like a pro. ;)

The anti-coasting measures in cm not mm. That's dedication to an ideal.

Are you working on other projects while on hold?

If so, you can double bill your time.

...maybe it has realized that no one is listening and is considering a trial separation ? :( #counselingwonthelp

..."can't dance, and it's too wet to plow," lends itself well to variations. I'm thinking, "Can't spin, and I'm too fat to timtak."

If the two of them can't find some common ground there may be an asplosion.

Based on the "torqued down tight" comment he used a breaker bar with a 1.83 m pipe extension.

Ended up taking an hour and a half to get through the call. I was updating a client's address.
