Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Am I going to regret not getting in on "What Makes a Bike Fast". I just can't bear to read someone say "the engine" one more time. But it has such potential for greatness. And coming in late is no good; having to catch up from two or three pages behind. I am completely conflicted.

So you would ride a motorized bike...

Actually I am a big proponent of e-bikes with proportional power assist for the purpose of levelling the abilities of folks riding together. Like the handicap in golf. I could go out with much better riders and keep up with them. There would be no deceit. I would surely disclose my advantage. But the point is that guys of different abilities could all ride together. I think that would be neat.

I think that it would be potentially problematic with guys that could physically go fast (with assist) but without the saddle time to have the situational experience, finesse and judgment necessary for fast group rides.

hahaha. You don't understand most guys. The younger they are, the more likely it's a demonstration of manhood. They're reeking of testosterone. They're not interested in riding together all nicey nicey, they're interested in seeing who is a badass and who is not.

Not much of a fan of the virtual power thing (dumb trainer power curves) on Zwift. Pretty far from being accurate or even consistent... but I suppose better than nothing.
im looking at a kickr, built in power and zwift can control the resistance in relation to the route which i find to be super cool. $ tho.

There's a local guy that talks a big game and feels the need to put down everyone else, every now and then he will join our group. Those days I put the hammer down and drop the group repeatedly to show him who's boss. I'm not sure if that's a testosterone thing, I mean it is in it's simplest form, but I'm mostly just trying to get him to shut up.

Ha, screw the disclosure! I think it would be a hoot to go out with the A ride and ride off the front while making it look easy. Of course I'd tell them later since they would be suspicious anyway. They might think I got a big supply of epo instead.

...my old man took me aside one day just after I started high school and told me," We can't afford to send you to college, so if you really want to go, try to work hard and do well in school. It's already costing us some money just to send you to Catholic high school." Worked for me. You could try that.

...I see e-bikes in the bike lanes here regularly, and even out on the MUP, where they are prohibited. They are universally owned and ridden here by guys with little experience on a bike, even less road savvy, and they regularly do insanely dangerous maneuvers when I see them. That's my experience with them.

...yeah, kinda. The guy with a cane on the back of his e-bike, who maneuvered around and passed me accelerating from about 20mph was pretty old though.

...the guy sez he's riding a Cdale "Bad Boy". I suspect that it's Alec Baldwin having some fun at our expense.

My wife told me to pick a football team to follow, such that I would watch football with her. So I am now a Cleveland Browns fan. No. Really.

How did you decide on the Browns?

1. Couldn't pick an undefeated team. That is jumping on a bandwagon.
2. Couldn't pick an expansion team. They seem made up.
3. Couldn't pick a team in Dallas's division. That would be a hostile home front.
4. Couldn't pick Buffalo. Because they are Buffalo.
5. Wanted to be in driving distance, in case I ever actually wanted to attend a game. (I won't).
6. Wanted to be able to afford a ticket once I didn't get there (Wife just paid $1k to see Dallas in Dallas lose to the Patriots).

But all that aside, my main reason was Ernie Davis.
