Merry Xmas Addiction.

One More Candle

Christmas Eve is coming
Everybody’s on the run
The days are getting shorter
To get their shopping done
And get home to their familiy
And decorate the tree
But lately I been wondering
What’s really there for me

Christmas makes it sadder
Don’t know why I forget
Maybe cause it’s just that
I can’t accept it yet
Knowing that you’re gone’s not
The same as full belief
Sometimes it leads me back to
A darker side of grief
A darker side of grief

Take all of my sorrow
And throw it out to sea
Let the Christmas wind blow it
Far away from me
Just light me one more candle
Here on my Christmas tree
To shine down with your spirit
And cast its light on me

Its Christmas light on me

They tell me it’s a process
For those who still remain
My friend he calls it surfing
Successive waves of pain
It’s harder in the season
I’m alone here on the beach
And getting back to normal
Seems just beyond my reach
Just beyond my reach

So Take all of my sorrow
And throw it out to sea
Let the Christmas wind blow it
Far away from me
Just light me one more candle
Here on my Christmas tree
To shine down with your spirit
And cast its light on me

Its Christmas light on me

Its Christmas light on me

Its Christmas light on me

Wait, what? How did this not come up sooner? I just got my aero degree from UTA in 2014. I'm doing mechanical for a small company in Denton. You're not working for Triumph Aerospace, are you? I have a friend I graduated with who is working there and not too enthused about it.

I'm a software engineer for a small company that does satellite communications (we build the ground tracking systems, radios, etc). My job involves a lot of orbital mechanics and science stuff. I'm also a scientist as a second, no longer paying job, doing ocean remote sensing stuff (I created maps to dispatch helicopters after Katrina, found new ways to optically detect oil spills, stuff like that from satellite imagery).

Back then I never got the impression it was as developed as Dallas, but word had it it was just a dusty cowboy town so I never went to check it out myself. We wandered to many other places, but never next door to FW. Denton was a frequent destination. :)

Wow, what's wrong with you? Downtown Ft Worth is like 1000000% better than Dallas. More accessible, more festival type stuff, better museums (and they're all FREE... they cost a fortune in Dallas). Next time you're in this neck of the woods you have to promise to go there.

Dallas just tries to be like every other big city, and does nothing to distinguish itself. FW never had any pretense and is just cool.

I spent a week in Dallas one night in 1983.

Cool. It wasn't all that back then, trust me. I would have heard.

So I did my first group ride today. Dropped out at just 8 miles into it (planned 35, but they ended up doing 40). It was a good damn bit faster paced than advertised (they said 16-17, but they were averaging 19), and I just couldn't keep my HR low enough to be safe (I have a heart condition that doesn't let me above 90% of my max). I even got up in the draft, and it still wasn't enough to keep it down. So I just had to bail. I still ended up at over 20 miles for the ride, though, just the rest of it was at my pace that I could safely manage.

Really nice guys and gals, though. I hope to have my fitness level up to the point where I can safely keep up with them maybe in spring. It takes forever to build up when you can't do anything like HIIT or weight lifting. But for now **** 21mph into a 15mph wind uphill.

Oh well. I had to start somewhere, and I was prepared for this kind of ending. So I'm glad I did it.

I had two chocolate biscotti as a result of LAJ's post. Interval workout tomorrow. No excuses now. ;)

I sense a disturbance.

If you went out and saw it, I think that officially makes it two of us on this thread. I mentioned it a few pages back and no one gave a flip. Bunch of philistines here.
