Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Then we dropped a huge bundle on kid's clothes for the granddaughters at Pippin Lane. The shop is owned by John Goodman's wife. Best kid's store we have ever been in. We pick stuff out and text photos to our daughters so they can pick and choose. I set up a little photo studio in the fitting room. The folks running the place think we are nuts but love to see us. I wonder why.

Mrs. Doug28450 works for a company in the "natural" industry. It is interesting to hear some of the stories she is provided with. Sometimes, I shake my head.

The only food supplement I take is Cholestoff phytosterols. They do have a positive effect on my lipid numbers besides what I get from the Rx drugs.

Look at how many health-conscious, athletic-minded people on this forum regularly eat at Chipotle or Taco Bell. They justify their behavior by noting that they rarely eat at McDonalds or BK.

People will delude themselves and make excuses galore to avoid having to make tough choices. Not just with eating, but in all walks of life people take the easy way out.
We had Baja Fresh (taco fast food) for dinner last night. Its fine. One grilled chicken taco and a side of pinto beans. I got the protein I needed to top off my day, and I had room in my calorie budget. Fast food is not the problem per se, you can still eat it. There's some evidence that processed foods may have more available calories than whole foods but if you keep it to a minority percentage of your total intake, you can eat normal American stuff pretty regularly.

Lol, it was the two glasses of wine that pushed me over my calorie budget for the day. But that's a different issue entirely.

I don't think they've done that on the classic rock station here, yet. Though they have slipped in some U2. The classic rock station here is so stale and repetitive you can literally set your watch to it. At the bike shop, one of the guys came from another shop that played that station non stop. He never had to look at a clock because he knew the time by the playlist. It's awful.

Yeah, I think there is a big difference between a fast food Mexican place that makes their own tortillas, mostly fresh stuff, fresh salsa, etc. and going to McDonalds. Each place requires a unique definition of the word "food" and one of them is mostly wrong.

EDIT: But I WILL whine about the cost of college compared to your generation's cost.

Lol, at 17, it's a little tough to say you understand the full impact. Would have 100% done 2 years of community college with a state school transfer and commuted to and from school even while at state school. Look who learned how to be thrifty way too late. At least I wasn't an idiot with my second go-around.

I was the first person in my family to go to college. I made SO many mistakes because I didn't have the benefit of parents who could guide me through that mess. My kids will be much more prepared. Better yet, I'm going to encourage them to NOT go to college straight out of school if they have no specific path in mind. I don't want them to waste their/my money or get into piles of debt like I did.

Haha, I think this might be an issue with every classic rock station I ever listened to. I usually just keep it on NPR these days. Diane Rehm and Marketplace is usually what I get during my commute when I drive.

My folks had 2 year degrees but collectively they were and still are about as useful as tits on a nun in any practical sense. Sorry Mom and Dad, still love you, just don't like you.

They let me run wild at a private school for 2 years chasing a creative writing degree. I think that they thought they were part of the aristocratic class...

I'd whine more about a degree that allows one to get a job on par with McDonald's.

I have a nephew with a business degree because everyone told him he could make money with it. Well, yeah, in the 90s, maybe.

He graduates and starts out at 20k a year at State Farm's corporate headquarters. That's $10/hour. Many years later and he's lucky if he's up to 30K.
