Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thank you. We both still have trouble sleeping and we seem to be catching every minor cold/sickness that comes along but we're getting there.

Short off-road ride. I discovered that riding on grass feels more stable than gravel. Is that normal? Also the Nashbar has 39/53 and 12-25 gearing. Due to slower speeds off road, I think I may want to reconsider the gearing.

No injuries other than a few brush scrapes on my arms.

Too bad. I was thinking you could get me some perogies.

Central Illinois? Don't you have to be in the hump area to call yourself a centraler?

Earned some road rash on the regular sunday ride.

Flat front into a right hand turn at the bottom of a fast descent. Luckily, there was traffic at the corner, so I had slowed more than usual.

After I got up and looked for sand/oil on the turn, I noticed low front tire. Then I recalled seeing a possible goathead stuck in the tire for a few revolutions on the way up, and it all made sense. I run sealant to help avoid this scenario, but I should have stopped and checked actual pressure.

At least I had ridden ahead of the other riders before going down.

Time to pick up some tagaderm and vasoline...

Tubeless tires and you flatted on a goathead? Or just sealant with regular tubes? I've had goathead punctures seal in my tubeless tires on multiple times, which is why I ask.

Feel better & heal up.

Good fitness day. I was able to work at threshold throughout the second race.

Having beef-veggie soup and Krusteaz Honey Cornbread tonite. Yum! I stew some red and green bell pepper with jalapeno in the oil that goes into the cornbread mix. Then when the oil cools, I put it all together. Wonderful.

It was chilly and overcast in Troy. Don't know if it was because of the hurricane.
