Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I suspect you will like the progressives. Very natural except in a few extreme situations where you have to bend your neck at an uncomfortable angle to get in the just right spot.

True, but you don't have to unless you'd rather run Shimano,SRAM cassettes. The Campy setup works fine.

Not bad for that part of the world. It's going to be colder on the east coast. I occasionally check out the Glacier N.P. web cams for weather conditions since I am planning to ride there in June. See that sign to sticking up through the snow to the left of the tall pine. Yesterday you could see about 12" of signpost.

We're expecting snow overnight , hopefully 3 or 4 inches. That show be enough to nudge the SEO into sitting on posts where they can be photographed instead of on the ground.

To our new "member" I would just say that the Addiction name takes a while to appreciate. There are a lot of addictions described here, not just cycling. Food, coffee, tools, AV equipment, did I mention food...

But just when you think that this thread has nothing to do with cycling, you get the weather report and not for nothing. Some folks are out there in the bitter cold and wind riding their bikes. Not me, but some folks. Now that is addiction.

Our forecast snow for Sunday is now down to a 10% chance, it was something like 80% a couple days ago.

The good news- Our police-escorted group ride will probably happen. The bad news- It'll be maybe 30 degrees at ride start.

My fleece booties will have to make their first appearance in about 4 years.

I can attest to that also. I'm using a BDop alloy cassette that is Campy compatible wrt the freehub splines. I changed my freehub body to the Campy 11-speed one from a Shimano 10-speed when I moved to 11. The whole purpose was to get the cog selection I wanted, and only the Campy version offered it (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 25). Shifts great and runs quietly.

No offense to Vol but I hate wearing balaclavas. I'll use a thin fleece beanie that covers my ears, but I don't like having anything on my neck.

When I go skiing it's the same deal. I've worn them when it's -15 and windy (Vermont FTW), but if it's above about 10 degrees I prefer just zipping my jacket all the way up and tucking my chin down into it while on a lift.

I like my Gore Windstopper beanie on cold days. My face doesn't need additional coverage.

Same. Anything around my neck makes me feel like my breathing is restricted so it bothers me more than the warmth is worth.

Even jerseys zipped all the way up bother me a little. Guess I have a sensitive neck.

I didn't want to like this guy's videos because the, "I'm going to put my life on Youtube!" thing is annoying, especially if they're vocal vegans. Still, watched this yesterday and enjoyed it, watched some more of his race vids and enjoyed them too.

Must be tough racing unaffiliated in California as a Cat 2 against domestic elite teams. He'll be hard pressed to ever get that 1 upgrade.

Especially without meat in his diet.
