I saw that. I was like "sheeeet, dan must really be invested in the addiction leaderboard to lap watopia that long...".

Also, I though the race was boring, just like every year there. There's no where to pass on that track. So it was just a pit strategy don't get caught out on yellows, flats, etc... race, rather than a skill race.

Anyways, I've been to Barber, and it's sweeet. They have probably the worlds largest motorcycle collection in the museum. If you're ever in B'ham you have to promise to make the trip.

I actually checked the leaderboard towards the end of my ride, and saw that, as usual, Addiction Zwifter and whoever the Texas Mike guy are had big days and put the weekly total well out of reach. I guess I could have spent 4 hours on there but I was already miserable so I stopped.

Not only are they a Dead cover band, they look like them (old grey haired hippies with potbellies) and apparently re-create exact concerts from the past. Cool! Except I hated it.

LOL. I know what you mean.

EXCEPT, I got to tick off a concert from my bucket list this weekend. On Sat I went and saw Sam Bush live. He basically never makes it to FL or TX, so for like 20+ years I've been wanting to see him live, but didn't muster up the thousands required to travel to see him.

Probably the best live show I've been to (that I wasn't playing in) evar so far.

I guess I liked it because it rhymes with "yak."

Why don't you change curmudgeon to "old yak?" :D

Awesome, my brother has been to one of his shows and had great things to say.

Also, topslop1 is prettier than I imagined. Kudos!

I have an extremely well developed sense for inclines on a bike at this point. No way I wouldn't be able to tell. That looks awful to me.

Yeah, my wife is not even a big bluegrass fan (you can't really call Sam Bush bluegrass), and her mind was blown at the concert as well.

Since I've stared riding, I've probably done 2000 miles listening to the "Glamour and Grits" album alone.

The opening act was someone I'd never heard of, but will definitely be going to see a lot more: Kelley Mickwee. She's Austin based, and hosts a radio show there as well. BAHHumbug should look her up and take the missus. She gets up Dallas way about once a month.

Sam Bush is amazing. Glad you got to see him live.

And as awful as this may sound, you remind me of the dad in Teen Wolf in werewolf mode. But if it makes you feel any better, I look a lot like Chris Pratt. But not GOTG Chris Pratt. I look much more like "The Office" (Whoops, "Parks and Rec") Chris Pratt. Either way, maybe there's a strange subset of conventions we could do together.

If I were in Dallas you'd have (according to friends, don't necessarily agree) Ty Burrell, the Modern Family dad, with a beard joining you for rides.

So I did a bad thing. I went running numbers on MTB wheels, and I can save 2.64 pounds of rotating mass no problem on my bike.

I'd have to change to a lighter tire and carbon rims is all.

How easy is it to swap out the rims on a wheel? Can you reuse the spokes and stuff? What would the required tools be to do such a thing?

ERD will likely be different, so you'd need new spokes, too (re-using them usually isn't recommended anyway, and would only save you 50-ish bucks). At that point, you might as well start from scratch and keep the other tires around as a spare set.

Agree, but I'm waiting for some of the proud curmudgeons in this thread to come out and remind us that they didn't know who Jordan was in the '90s :D

My partner in farming didn't know his name. Was also unaware of the OJ thing. He emigrated from E.Germany to Binghamton, NY, shortly after winning the worlds in one man kayaking (1970). He sought asylum in Italy that same evening.

seedsbelize 04-24-17 09:43 AM

He is a big fan of professional cycling though.

rpenmanparker 04-24-17 09:45 AM

Also the tools required...and skills... would be everything needed to build a wheel. To me that means truing stand, dishing tool, spoke wrench, and tensiometer. If the spokes are aero, you would also benefit from a blade spoke gripping tool. YMMV.

Oh, as far as what you'd need... you need a good spoke key. The rest of the stuff is really-nice-to-have: wheel truing stand, spoke tension meter, dish tool. Also needed is a quiet evening or two and a bottle of wine or two.

WhyFi 04-24-17 09:51 AM

Oh, one of the little kids at the Easter brunch buffet yesterday said something so perfectly wrong/right that it bears sharing here. Her bigger sister said that bacon came from cows, to which younger sister replied, "No. Pigs are made from bacon."

What WhyFi said, but spokes are pretty cheap

https://www.danscomp.com/products/43...ess_Spoke.html

And you just need a spoke wrench. And a couple of zip-ties around your fork/frame to use as a truing stand.

Or you could have gotten in the car and drove around some.

jtaylor996 04-24-17 10:05 AM

So cheaper to buy a new wheel set entirely, it seems. It's only $400 more to get the wheels built with DT swiss hubs/spokes/everything else.

Looks like I'd save 1.63# on the wheel set, and then 1.68# on the tires. That's kind of a ton of weight lost that you have to spin up on the crazy climbs on a MTB.

I already feel guilty posting a Zwift ride to Strava :(

jtaylor996 04-24-17 10:10 AM

Part of not just doing the tires here is that going to 2.8" on 45mm inner width rims is going to expose the sidewalls to more rocks than I'd like. You really need i40 rims for those tires.

WhyFi 04-24-17 10:10 AM

Ah, and Daniel Radcliffe plays a good corpse. Swiss Army Man is an interesting movie if you haven't seen it.
