Do you guys and gals really wear earbuds while riding? Seems you'd be better off salmoning so you could at least see what's coming at you, if not hear it.

Agree

Sweet! I'm expecting a watch to be delivered today (so I keep glancing outside whenever I hear a truck go by), but I also received a watch strap in the mail (seller didn't offer tracking and it came from the UK, so I had no idea of when to expect it). Nice to get both on the same day.

Oh why thank you sir. Pretty sure that was absolute beginning of the day. Feel like it went a bit smoother later on... e.g. faster than 3mph. :p

What does Addiction 1 have to say about earbuds?

I wear one earbud in my right ear, music or podcasts at a low volume. Can still hear traffic/pedestrians out my left ear. Plenty of people I know do the same.

If you're gonna do it, do it right - I wear a full VR headset while riding so that I can Zwift.

No. Never. Nor do I have a bell, and I never wave.

Are you going to Strava your adventure cycling?

Also, how's the snowpack?

I don't Strava, Zwift, smart phone, GPS or app. I do have a PGS--Paper Guidance System--device.

Glacier N.P. seems to be melting quite nicely, and plowing operations on Going to the Sun Rd. appear to be going well.

You're not going to be so smug when your battery dies.

It's useful to hear cars coming from behind if you're out in the country on a twolane blacktop and taking the lane. In situations like in this video, the car that's going to kill you won't sound any different from the thousands that aren't, so audio cues are almost entirely useless. I'll still do the single earbud thing, though.

Hmmm - I don't believe that 'wut' needs/warrants a question mark. Can I get a ruling here, Velo Vol?

Capitalization is probably unnecessary, too.

+1. Having both ears free won't help you if a driver suddenly swerves into a bike lane because they are distracted by a text. It won't sound any different than any other car. Having my left ear free at least allows me to hear whether there are any cars immediately behind me for when I'm about to glance behind and take the lane for a turn.

Correct.

wut

is the proper Addiction usage.

[I'm drawing a blank on who established the standard. It was a somewhat infrequent poster, hardcore, possibly an occasional drop-in Road Nazi from the 33.]

I've been listening to MSNBC.

rpenmanparker 04-24-17 12:07 PM

My good ride on Saturday was not a fluke. Even a couple of tenths faster today, 16.3 mph. Why? Less wind? Dunno? But for about six months I have been struggling to break 15. I can't figure it out.

No. I just put my phone in my jersey with the volume all the way up.

My good ride weekend before last was definitely a fluke. Next time on the bike I sucked worse than usual. I shall try again tonight, though.
