So I bought a mountain bike that is like a swiss army knife when it comes to tires. And now I can't decide what to do.
Lighter is what I want. They have slightly smaller 650B+ tires (2.7" after some stretching) that will save me 3#, but then I'll lose between .125" and .22" bottom bracket height, which would not be great. Also, I could put 29er wheels on it, and then use some larger than normal tires (2.5") also, which are the same weight, but raise the BB, and might rub a hair when I bottom out the suspension fully, but then I lose some of the big volume benefits. MTBs are so damn complicated. |
Had to go digging for this one. Best car ever in his shop

I'll probably get in a race or two this year, though. |

You know, it's quite possible the sports car weenies over at corvetteforums.com are more pathetic than you freds. Still, the median income there is probably far higher, so they have that going for them. Trying to talk to you idiots about sports car crap is the apogee of faii. Let's start with the basics. In the photo below the real Ferrari is on the right, the White Trash Ferrari is on the left.

I think the Ferrari pictured is a 488 cabriolet actually. The 488 coupe is the most beautiful sports car design I've ever seen. AND the car is about as fast as modern sports cars get, VERY fast on a track, right up there with the Z06 and the Porsche 918. Those last two cars lapped Northern Virginia Raceway (Car & Driver) in about 2:45, the C7 Stingray turned a 2:53.8, a Grand Sport (my car's motor in a Z06 chassis, suspension/wheels tires) did a 2:47 or so. Anything under 3 minutes on that track is fast, anything under 2:55 very fast, under 2:50- fastest production cars you can buy.

Can I get one for 60% off MSRP at Racecarsdirect.com?
one with 400 miles on the clock for $10-$20K over list like every other Ferrari weenie wannabe ($310-$330K). If I wanted a a 488 and I had the dough I'd do the latter. Or you could buy a C7 Z51 or Grand Sport for $40-$75K (depending on equipment, new or used etc.) and get 95% of the driving mojo for johnny lunchpail money. Then you're driving a car that nobody resents (Americans love Corvettes, exotic cars piss some people off what can I say). The C7 is so off the hinges great compared to the old C6 - closer to a Ferrari than a Corvette in many ways. Much more capable and sophisticated sports car. You can do things in a C7 that would have had you in the weeds in a C6 - which is why C7s can run with the finest sports cars in the world. It's actually faster around a track than most of them. |

I will invoke my position as the 41 resident expert on men's tailored clothing having grown up in the men's wear and custom tailoring businesses. "Dressing right" or "dressing left" are indeed questions asked by a custom tailor presumably to allow room on the proper side for the equipment. In fact it is all hogwash. There is no extra room on one side of a pair of pants or the other. Certainly not on "off the rack" clothes since who knows which side is supposed to be standard. And I have owned many tailor-made suits and never had one which actually provided more room on one side or the other. I have never seen a custom suit being made that had any such allowance. It is basically an urban myth. Foolishness.

Sure is. This morning, you could still take MLK to reach the on ramp to I-676 E near the Park Towne Place Apartments along the BF Parkway. Seems the cops forgot that there is a road that runs behind the apartments over to 22nd St. and that you can access that road from the ramp. Cars were doing that, ending up on 22nd St. and finding that they could not head north on 22nd or turn onto the Parkway. Most were going back, which meant they would have to get on I-676, but some started heading south on 22nd to Race to find that intersection blocked by a cop car. I told the cop what was causing the problem. I think she radioed to have the road behind the apartments blocked off. I am a few blocks north of Kelly and there is increased traffic on the block just south of mine as people look for lesser streets to head east after being forced off Kelly at the museum.
