My back was too messed up to ride last night. Maybe tonight, if rain holds off.
Anyone know of any side effects of riding while on muscle relaxers? Falling asleep at the wheel? p.s. not kidding. IMO any muscle relaxant has a good chance of causing some drowsiness. |

So I have a gee-tar question. What do you think about guitarsdirect.com, which model is bulletproof and gives me the best bang for the buck?? Do I need a carbon fiber neck??? http://www.modern-guitars.co.uk/wp-c...6/D8N_5204.jpg |

On Monday, we celebrated our boy's 6th bday (how did that happen already?). During said celebrations, I ate something that didn't agree with me and I had trouble, ah, absorbing nutrients for a couple of days. Finally feeling like systems are back to normal, but I missed my Wed ride. How am I supposed to barnstorm the weekly Addiction leaderboard from such a hole? :(

Nice. Where was this?
A bucket list ride with 13740 ft elevation gain from the sea to the top. I wish I had brought my real camera. The last 15 miles is mostly insane 15% with 5 miles of soft volcanic ash. I finally had my first clipless fall. |

When I last posted on a ride (Sunday), it looked like this (foreshadowing)
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ut...LdlGtJacA=w800 On Memorial Day I ventured out for an even more epic ride into the wilds of South Knox and Blount Counties. Usually when I go out and there's a decent chance of rain, I look on the radar. But I forgot to Monday. Shortly after I left it started sprinkling on me, and continued to do so (off and on) until I was half way into the ride. It was quite daredevily to risk getting rained on like that, but I HTFU and rode anyway. The storm hit South Knoxville even worse than West Knoxville. I saw a bunch of downed trees. On one of the longer climbs over a ridge the road was littered with a twigs and sticks. Just over the top I see a sign on the center stripes "Road Closed" Uh oh. I don't ride that area often and don't know the roads well. And I didn't want to turn around and go back the way I came, so I proceeded slowly. Came across this around the bend. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/y0...OmIcfdw6Q=w800 Uh oh. Fortunately, on the far right side if you went off the road you could walk around the wires without risking electrocution, so that's what I did. Later in the ride I came to a second road closure. Again I rolled through. In this one the fallen trees had already been removed. Not sure why the sign was still in the road. Anyway, I saw critters. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_K...jnw7yFdlg=w800 And birds! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Wk...DEy0umFPQ=w800 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/9I...TeNQNo5yQ=w800 And thus, thanks to my HTFU and persistence, I finished the ride entered into Strava lore. Looks like a fun ride. There are goats and turkeys here on the roadside. One darted across my path. |

Today we road a 35 mile/4700 ft ride on the mtn bikes. Cool and overcast, great temps for riding.
My friend who is here visiting with us is not the fastest rider and she likes to stop and take pics. So I just noodled around unconcerned about much of anything. It was pretty enjoyable. Very few cars or hikers. We saw a couple foxes and a bunch of Buffalo. Nice one. http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...93AF7D2BA2.jpg http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...BAAA0F2112.jpg I wish I had your iPhone skills! |

Hey all. Long time no talk. I dropped in with bad news a few weeks ago. The good news is that my mom is doing/feeling much better after getting over her first round of chemo. They are doing a PET scan today to try and get a more definitive answer of what they are dealing with. It's been almost a month already and we still don't have any solid answers.
But on the internet front: I'm learning once again how similar all forums are to each other. As I mentioned, I recently picked up the guitar again and have been really enjoying it. I joined an acoustic guitar forum and the results have been as expected. People type more than they play. People are really big fans of 1 or 2 brands and basically look down on everything else, ESPECIALLY import models made at extremely low prices. There is one import brand that gets a lot of love, but is not exactly shy about what company they emulate. Lots of people are worried about how much their guitars cost, from the "I paid this much and it's this much better" to the "best bang for the buck" crowd. I mean seriously, people just don't change. On the cycling front, I'm not getting any freaking riding in. Guitar has stepped in for my mental release during the busy season of life right now. I can play for 10-15 minutes at a time without having to wear special clothes and leave the house. The wife is finishing her first successful year at the new school this week and things will soon be more relaxed. I am looking forward to getting on a bike again for both mental release and exercise, but Texas summer already sucks. Looks like some night rides are in my future. |

From the pics on Strava, I thought you detoured through the farm to get around the pole.

I almost forgot: do we have any PA addictionites? I ended up going to Pittsburgh to get to my business event in Maryland and before catching my return flight, I spent part of the day on Carson street in Pittsburgh. When I left to go to the airport, my phone put me on 12th street to Brosville and I thought I was on a mountain pass for a minute there. I don't think I'd survive on a bicycle in some parts of the country.
I also drove through the north eastern part of West Virginia. Just a genuinely beautiful area all around. I always thought I hated Texas weather, but now I realize that I hate the weather AND the geography. Brosville strava segment: https://www.strava.com/segments/2539717 I mean crap, the KOM is 10 mph avg for .4 miles. |

On a serious note, I agree with you and RPK. It's good, but nothing special with all of the other craft breweries in the US. Did stop at their brewery last week after biking the Sugar River trail with my wife as it is quite near the trailhead. As a sidenote, there is a Mn brewery Brau Brother's I especially like, an annoyance is it appears that distribution in SE WI has stopped. :( |

Next time try it without the Mn plates on your vehicle.:) Also, I personally don't think much of their other offerings. The burgers are average and there is better custard available. |
