They must use GPS to know where they're going.

I mean, you could if you knew what you were doing. Just blank out the entire spectrum the FHSS algorithm is using. You pretty much couldn't target one rider or team, however.

Got out today, and it felt great. I was (hypocritically) hoping for rain by the end of it, though :). 90A with high humidity, so on my way home I stopped for this:
. Also, somehow I lost a cleat bolt which rendered unclipping my left foot impossible- so that was an interesting few seconds of confusion and anxiety. I rode on the flats of my double-sided pedals for the return journey, and ended with some foot numbness. 30 miles total. And I got to test the HRM as well, which confirmed that my fitness is crap, but not quite as bad as I was expecting. |

Where I grew up they call it Italian Ice. Where I live now they call it water ice. |

I am investigating bike rentals for our upcoming trip to Spain. I would prefer to rent a 58cm Roubaix, as I am familiar with the size. Looks like most of the "serious" bike rental places there have Canyon.
|
Trying out a Canyon ahead of their (supposed) US launch would be fun. I'm surprised that there aren't more Orbea available.

It's a snowball around these parts. Though admittedly, this is not the best example as this one was about 30 seconds old when I took the picture, and there is not a large cone of ice/syrup on the top. The girl that made is evidently a new employee.

Around here a snowball is made of crunchy ice bits/shavings, while water ice is smooth (like ice cream but water based).

I had this mental image of Catalina island being very small (never been there). Too small for so much riding elevation.
Obviously incorrect. Just getting out of Avalon is 1500 ft of climbing over 3-4 miles. Climb climb climb. Maybe not Mauna Kea type climbing. But there's no flat here. :) |

Kudos I can't imagine 46 miles on a mountain bike. |

The scene in which we encountered these buffalo: a big bull male crossed the road to run a smaller bull male off of a water source. We watched the big bull bully the little bull away, there was a deep bellowing noise that I'd never heard before. Whoa better stop a good ways back and let that play out. The little bull runs off, the big bull drinks and then wanders into the brush and keeps up the grunting/bellowing. Then we realized an entire herd of cows were strung all up and down the mountainside on the other side of the road, with more coming over the ridge line. They were confused by us and uncertain if it was safe to cross the road with us there. We couldn't really move at all because moving up the road would have brought us closer to the bull and moving down the road would have cut off where the cows were heading to cross. So we just stayed put and let them figure it out. Took em a little while but eventually they felt ok enough to cross the road. It was pretty cool. Not really scary because all involved parties, us and the buffalo, were calm throughout. But I guess it could have gone awry if something panicked the buffalo or we acted like fools. |
Today we did a wee recovery ride:
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...AD705CF0D9.jpg Then waffle brunch and hanging out on the boat. Our friends took the ferry home, they have to open the shop (LBS) tomorrow. Then after dropping them off at the ferry, more relaxing: http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...423525B775.jpg Doglet too: http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...73E3C4FC5E.jpg Great week of chill riding over here on the island, I think something like 125ish miles and 13000 ft of climbing. Just very relaxed week, no agenda, lots of just doing what you felt like whenever you felt like it. Nice break from everyday life. :) |
