Can be. Some hikers were gored by a buffalo a couple of years ago over here.

The scene in which we encountered these buffalo: a big bull male crossed the road to run a smaller bull male off of a water source. We watched the big bull bully the little bull away, there was a deep bellowing noise that I'd never heard before. Whoa better stop a good ways back and let that play out.

The little bull runs off, the big bull drinks and then wanders into the brush and keeps up the grunting/bellowing. Then we realized an entire herd of cows were strung all up and down the mountainside on the other side of the road, with more coming over the ridge line. They were confused by us and uncertain if it was safe to cross the road with us there.

We couldn't really move at all because moving up the road would have brought us closer to the bull and moving down the road would have cut off where the cows were heading to cross. So we just stayed put and let them figure it out.

Took em a little while but eventually they felt ok enough to cross the road.

It was pretty cool. Not really scary because all involved parties, us and the buffalo, were calm throughout. But I guess it could have gone awry if something panicked the buffalo or we acted like fools.

Wow! Very cool.

Then waffle brunch and hanging out on the boat. Our friends took the ferry home, they have to open the shop (LBS) tomorrow.

Then after dropping them off at the ferry, more relaxing:

Great week of chill riding over here on the island, I think something like 125ish miles and 13000 ft of climbing. Just very relaxed week, no agenda, lots of just doing what you felt like whenever you felt like it. Nice break from everyday life. :)

Perfect :)

I guess I have to admit that Doglet might be as cute as Bailey. :)

By the way, you broke a nail.

Ha, I was wondering if anyone would notice. I've got gloves on and off so often at work that it's impossible to keep my nails neat. It would drive me crazy (and broke from frequent manicures) if my OCD extended to this particular issue.

Kudos.

What do they call that frozen treat where you are? Where I grew up they call it Italian Ice. Where I live now they call it water ice.

Isn't that a pink champagne popsicle?

Ooooh - I thought that Pepe was going to take the weekly distance top spot this time around, then LAJ posts up a 90-miler at the buzzer to squeak by him.

:(

I did ride a 38 miler on Monday, but it is not there since the computer on my steel bike doesn't talk Strava.

Was it 38 miles "as ridden??" :innocent:

datlas 06-05-17 08:21 AM

Speaking of not ridden/ridden miles, I did a club ride on Saturday which I believe was 61 miles. I pushed the "start" button on my iPhone's strava, but somehow it must have read it as a double-tap (SRAM influence?) because when I got to the rest stop it was stuck at 0 seconds. I did record the second half.

I still had a fantastic ride, even though the first half does not exist on Strava-land.

I had a saddle bag and water bottles, but no pedals. So I don't know.

You need to get those ultralight bottle cages and bottles, BTW. All the cool kids at school have them.

Another deal for a good riding mower in the works now. This one is more expensive, but much newer. I like to think of it as costing 4 months worth of yard service... seems WAY cheaper that way.

It's a JD LT150.
