Last Thai thought for now (can you tell I'm avoiding the mess that's piled up at the office?)-
The stories of how cheap it is to stay there once you're in-country are not exaggerated. You could easily stay there on $20-30 a day for food, activities, drinks, ect. Lodging can vary, but even the nicest 5 star resorts were ~$120 a night and perfectly adequate hotels were more like $25-30. I did hear from many people that Cambodia is a must-visit destination in that region as well. |
Forgot to mention: taxes done and filed. $3,000 refund applied to April estimated taxes for 2017. Refund a bit of a surprise, but we actually didn't go as far over budget last year as usual. I still can't figure out why. It wasn't from a lack of trying. :innocent:

Another from the A&S; it's at an airport, so there are always planes approaching the runways.

What time/date where you there? It's possible that is literally my flight from Tokyo, I was on a United 777-200 exactly like that.
Granted, there are hundreds of them, but that'd be a random "Addiction Meetup".

Opinion please- Facebook has "suggested friends" listed on your news feed based on mutual friends and interests.
Virtually all of mine feature people in lycra and/or on bikes. Does that mean I'm a serious cyclist? Or that my social circles are seriously underdeveloped? Fail. |

700 miles in the car in one day? I don't think I've ever done more than 400 tops.

Seriously...Probably considered "social networking" by your IT department. If you Google Strava it describes itself as a "Social Network." Many social networking sites are blocked at my work, but interestingly I can get to Strava. |

Well, I finally made another weekend ride. Holy freaking crap, do I hate wind. It was pretty much a steady 20mph wind from the south. I was depressingly slow. Slower than I've been in years. I was having an OK time until about mile 15 into a 38 mile ride. From then on it was either hills or wind kicking me in the face. I think the last 15-20 miles were just a genuine survival mode slog fest. I started on an empty stomach and at a bonk breaker bar at mile 28.
Luckily, I had some friends post similarly depressing rides with similarly low average speeds in correlation to their usual abilities. I still have lots of work to do, though. On the plus side: I did some gravel on my 32mm Paselas. Man, those have to be the best tires I've ever put on any bike. Quite honestly, they did just as well as the 35mm CX tires I usually run on gravel. The only parts where they were pretty much out of their element were places where the CX tires weren't stellar, either. I wonder if Compass cycles makes any nice 35mm slicks... I did my Sunday group ride yesterday (complete with watching the Paris-Roubaix finish on our cell phones before rolling out). First time on the bike in 2 weeks, 3 hours of sleep, "forgot" to eat breakfast again, but I was able to hold on despite the Cat 3 group ride KOM hunters doing their thing. Definitely didn't move from the couch the rest of the day, though. |

How was the food? Were you an adventurous eater?
There were plenty of street vendors with more adventurous items (insects and such), but we didn't really get a chance to try any of that. Next time. I will say that I drank the tap water and ate whatever I wanted, and never had any stomach issues. I believe the same applied to everyone else as well. I did consume a lot of "Chang" beer. It's funny to me that, no matter where you go in the world, if it's a tropical destination you're going to get a bland local lager. You could have told me it was Presidente or Corona and I would believe you. |

Funny how being grounded from training for a few days will make you first exhausted for a couple of days, then suddenly jumping out of your skin with energy.

It was good. To be honest, we didn't eat adventurously as much as I expected. Most of the time we were in a group and had lunch/dinner in restaurants. I love thai food and love spice so I basically had what I'd get in the US, except it obviously tasted better. Wasn't spicier, though. They seemed to refuse to believe that I actually like truly scorching food.

I know. That would be the point. I think Herbie53 went too. I'm so jealous, everybody gets to ride good places except me. ;) |

I do like the idea of Addiction training camp. Let's do it in Majorca. |
