It might also be the AC requirements. The 737's I was flying on all day yesterday had AC that sucked ass on the ground, but was fine in the air. I'd imagine if the plane couldn't keep (lowest denominator) people from passing out if it got stuck in a 45 minute hold on the ground or something like that, it would be grounded in those temps. Regardless of if it could fly or not.

Mixed up a glass of this for the hell of it. Then I read the label which says "Do not use in conditions of extreme heat." And "Do not use in combination with caffeine."

Oops. Hope I live through this commute. :)

I love the pictures of the riders in the Trans Am. Most pics we see of cyclists, the kits are just so, matching socks and water bottle cages, etc..... Then you get a pic of these folks. Janie has a big ol bandage on her legs where the dog bit her, and was worried it would interfere with the chain. Amy Lippe has assorted grease stains on her jersey and skin... They look as if they've been riding their bikes for a while.

Serious cyclists.

During my jersey shopping, I came across a Twin Six post that included a pic of one of their guys during the Tour Divide. Yeah, a little less concerned with pristine, matchy-matchy kit -

Oh, LAJ would appreciate this: at the end of my ride yesterday, a pickup truck in front of me at the intersection gunned it on a left turn, causing some water bottles and, more importantly, a MAC tool bag to fall out of the bed (gate was down). I grabbed the bag and was able to track him down when he hit a red light two blocks later. He was equally embarrassed and thankful.

Now that I've done a good cyclist deed, I can go back to being a prick cyclist for the rest of the week. ;)

PepeM. Those Open Pavès are the zhits to ride, but tough to mount. I find myself using two Pedros levers to mount the first bead, and 2-3 Michelins for the second. The unfortunate part of all this is that I have them on my travel bike and it is so much easier to pack sin llantas.

I am discovering I am not liking Arizona as much as I anticipated I would. For one thing, my allergies are as bad here as I think they have been anywhere. I am taking the last of the Zyzal tablets today then going back to a different pill like Allegra or something. ("It's as ineffective at hour 24 as it is at hour one" to paraphrase the commercials.) And there is so much crap on the roads in the form of thorns or- for LoP today- a radial tire wire that we're going through a bunch of tubes. I'm not bothered by the heat so much as long as there's a little breeze and I think most people have their AC too high (too low?) a lot of the time and that makes it even harder to readjust when you go outside.

What I am bothered by is how hard it is to get a driver's license. I have one from Washington and it has my photo and birthdate on it and I have my social security card with my name on it. But neither of those can serve as my primary document because they're not official enough. So, I had my mom mail my birth certificate. Now, I have a different problem because my birth certificate has my maiden name on it and everything else has my formerly married name on it. Here in Arizona and possibly in other places, I don't know, they want you to have a paper trail for why your name is different. That means I need to have Mom mail my marriage certificate and possibly divorce papers down here and that will delay things even further. I am all for preventing identity theft or terrorism or whatever other horrible thing we're trying to stop but I think this is going pretty far. Who hauls all these important and usually unnecessary papers around with them? Maybe I should have got a passport. Maybe I should have stuck to my guns and not changed my name. (I didn't, in fact, until I was pregnant.) Maybe I should have been born a boy.

When I told my mom about her maybe having to send more paperwork down here, she said something like "Oh brother. Just ride a bike."

There were mini bikes in the '40s?

VAR solves all problems. Using levers is soooo old school.

Seems to me it is still that way.

Right, but those are the things that the certifications are concerned with.

Awesome! Maybe he won't kill the next cyclist he runs across.

Zyzal is just twice as active Zyrtec. Put another way, Zyzal is all the active form of cetirizine while Zertec and generic cetirizine are only 1/2 the active form. You can legitimately take as much generic cetirizine to equal the performance of 5 mg of Zyzal. Why bother with the marketing-hyped version?

rpenmanparker 06-22-17 11:00 AM

I'm all in favor of women keeping their maiden names. In fact I think sons' last names should come from their father and daughters' from their mother. What could make more sense than that?

Trsnrtr 06-22-17 11:02 AM

For those following my health saga(s), I had a few tests this week. The final diagnosis for my poor cycling performance lately and lethargy is low testosterone (76.4 ng/dL). I can't have testosterone replacement therapy. :(

Also, my cough is a result of an upper viral respiratory infection and is nearing its end.

Lastly, after a recommendation by every one of my zillion doctors, I finally consented to a sleep study. Ugh.

Well, the Zyzal doesn't do anything so I'm guessing the Zyrtec won't do anything down here either. I was planning to try to work at Starbucks or a fast food place until I got on somewhere I really wanted to work but no one is going to want me around food when I have to wipe my nose and wash my hands every few minutes.
