This sort of stuff has the potential to put fun back into cycling. rydabent would be pleased.

Short Spain update.

I saw this storefront which looked, ahem, cool.

It turns out it's indoor cycling, which I suspect is spinning but BYOB. No thanks.

Slightly more interesting is the Aquabike:

Still, I will pass.

Finally, a selfie in front of Barcelona'a Arc de Triumf:

Hasta luego, amigos.

I call poppycock. Planes fly in and out of Merida at those temps.

They can't be fully loaded at those temperatures. Also depends upon ground altitude and how fast the plane has to climb to get over surrounding mountains and other things like that.

Nice pics. I might have to install something like that in the pool. Could I just sink a regular bike in there? So much rain these days.
Hasta luego. Vayan con dios.

Does the air get thinner? Less buoyant? I guess I could look it up but where's the fun in that?

I think it is about thinner air in two ways. The lower density of the hot air makes it harder to develop a pressure difference above and below the wing. More speed would be needed to get the desired lift. Also the engines can't push as much air mass through them to develop the necessary thrust for the required speed. So you need more speed but can't get it. Also certain runways aren't long enough to accommodate the longer run up to take off needed. That gets back to the speed issue.

I knew I could count on you, Robert. Great explanation. I wonder if the humidity here makes the difference. At sea level and surrounded by water.

I don't know for sure, but I think higher humidity makes it easier to lift a plane. Moist air must be denser than dry air.

I guess everybody else is asleep. Trainsnorter must be out riding.

It was only certain aircraft types that weren't allowed to fly. It was their maximum allowable operating temperature that was mentioned.

Trying to get motivated to commute in.

Keurig all day at the shop. The Dark Magic is pretty good.

Totally

Unless you get those ones from the hospital that have tread on them.

What the whippersnapper probably can't appreciate is the song itself - bonus internets kudos for anyone that can non-google identify the show that made the song famous.

"Maybe, there's a world where we won't have to run, and
Maybe, there's a time we'll call our own,
Living free in harmony and majesty!
Take me hooome,
Take me home."

Yes, I will not deny that it's an odd song to have wedged in to one's head.

John Denver?

Good ride today. Plenty of wildlife. I spotted a ton of Quail (all the baby quail are really young, so ****z out behind the moms instead of following in straight lines), a roadrunner AND coyote.

Ran out of water, since my 100 oz bladder sprung a leak I tried to make do with a 64 oz bladder + 21oz bottle. Ran out about 6 miles from home :(

Epic

The Phoenix plane thing used to be (late 1980s) just the lift charts they had were calculated and CERTIFIED up to 122F. So while I'm sure planes can fly over that, and even some can calculate the lift, if there is not an approved and certified number they are going to - they are grounded.

Seems to me it is still that way.

New job has me working from 5 am to 7:30 pm every day. I like the company, and the guys I work for, but holy cow is this draining. It has me to the point that I am contemplating temporary unemployment to enjoy the youngest's last summer in high school.

Hope all is well with everyone.

O hai

I left my hospital tread socks at the hospital.
