So burned out this week. Yesterday put me over the top, though. I started super early in the morning (7:30) working on stuff for Nigeria, then had to work for Australia/NASA/NOAA all damn day long (haircut/bank at lunch), then went got the mower, then not 5 minutes after that was over starting at 8pm I had to start working for China until after 11pm. This is after 2 weeks of similar.
Then rain today, so the weekend is likely shot for riding. And to top it off we get notice that this years health insurance premiums are going up more than 20% this year, so I get to rinse and repeat for even less money. #AdultingIsABeatDown |

Yes, I did ask. My bank (PNC) charges $5 for using an ATM overseas so I think we will just use the ATM card at the airport in Spain.
My OCD tendencies make me want to have 50-100 euros in my pocket just in case there is a problem in the airport, so we can pay for the taxi ride, but I think I will just have to let that go. It seems that trying to get euros here in the USA is going to be more trouble than it's worth. $5 to get a few hundred is cheap compared to the fees charged at a staffed kiosk l, and the exchange rate is rock bottom, similar to what you get on a credit card. Got all that? ;) |
Oh, one more thing. I usually just bring my leftover Euros home after a trip so I have them for next time. That way I don't have to worry about not having any in my pocket when the plane lands.

And more expensive. If you have the right card, MC or Visa debit card, you will have no problem. Just make sure to notify the card issuer about your trip in advance so they don't think the overseas cash request is fraudulent. It is always a good idea to do that for all the credit cards you will carry as well. Mrs. rpen and I carry two different cards in case one of us gets robbed. The other will still have a card from an open account after the loss of card is reported. And be sure to choose a card that has no conversion fee like 3%. Some of ours don't, but other ones do.

Yeah, don't bother with an exchange here. Take some US cash to convert. If the airport is big enough, they'll usually have a real bank somewhere inside (not the currency conversion stands). Or if there is a train station within the airport, sometimes they will do currency exchange also. They'll typically take ~5% up to a maximum dollar amount, so it's a little better to convert a larger dollar amount. Just beware that banks outside the airport may want you to have an account to exchange currency.

BillyD cute grandchild. Enjoy your time with him or her.
Your shed has a major problem. The bike is hidden at the back where you can't get to it. It's feeling neglected and unloved. You need to fix that fast. |

Yep. We had one of these about six months ago in my town. "I hit the gas instead of the brake" right through the glass doors @ Costco, into the lobby -- little girl, six or so, was hit and died. Very, very sad.

I don't know why those big safety concrete car-stoppers (whatever they're technically called) aren't required in the commercial building code. Targets all seem to have them. They can't cost much, and while I normally go against the "if it saves one kid..." argument, this isn't a big ask to save kids, and adults, from getting run over indoors. It's literally some big concrete blocks. Paint them in you corporate colors, invite local artists to decorate them, or local kidnergartners. Whatever.
In houston (IIRC) there was a gun store that had bars and car blockers all over the front. They still got robbed... they just drove a truck through the side wall of the building like it wasn't even there. |

So I went to get some Chipotle sofritas carry-out for lunch, and I decided to pop in to the LBS that is 3 store-fronts down. I figured maybe I should buy some NUUN or equivalent for next week's Spain trip.
It turns out the LBS is closed. It is part of a small local chain that was sold to Trek, and they are "closed for inventory" and apparently will open up tomorrow as Trek company stores. I wonder if it's a sign that I should just buy the NUUN in Spain? |

You probably couldn't drive through the door at a target because of those things... but it's all security theater. You sure as hell could drive right through the wall with a truck.
