It is a nice one. What is it going on though? Seems more suitable for some sort of vintage bike than for a crabon wonderrocket.

Dare to be different

Yes, I know some will. I've never tried it but I know a lady who wears her Fitbit or whatever it is on her ankle while cycling. She's done it for at least 3 years that I know of.

Depends? I had a Garmin Vivosmart that would't record steps when worn on the wrist, but would record some when kept in an outside back pocket. I now have the Vivoactive HR, but don't put it in the pocket as it's easier to read. But I think it still records some amount of steps.

I think if you clipped it to the leg opening or tucked it just under the leg opening in the right orientation, it would register a lot of 'steps', but maybe not all pedal strokes.

I've learned that mine inaccurately records steps if I'm pushing a shopping cart. I have to steer the cart one-handed and let the arm with the VHR swing naturally.

That's exaactly how to do it. I remember the firsst time we ever usd one in Guatemala. Quetzales came out. Pesos come out here, and Euros will come out in Spain.

I know you didn't ask, but that is no longer the best way to prepare for a trip regarding local funds. Your best bet is to carry a debit/ATM card for your checking account. Use the ATM at the arrivals exit of the foreign airport and you will get the best possible exchange rate. Make sure the machine is from a major bank to keep the added fees low. And it must be a debit card. Plain ATM cards won't work.

Well, I guess you did ask after all.

Yes, I did ask. My bank (PNC) charges $5 for using an ATM overseas so I think we will just use the ATM card at the airport in Spain.

My OCD tendencies make me want to have 50-100 euros in my pocket just in case there is a problem in the airport, so we can pay for the taxi ride, but I think I will just have to let that go. It seems that trying to get euros here in the USA is going to be more trouble than it's worth.

This past weekend while in Maryland I patronized my first Chipotle joint ever (we don't have one around these parts). Datlas, I can't believe you ate a regular offering. I got a routine (I guess) chorizo order w/ black beans and brown rice and salsa and GMO corn salad over the top . . . . . it took me two meals to finish it and I even shared a third with my brother.

They give you a lot of food, no wonder some of you guys are too fat for this sport.

I have ZERO problem putting down a full bowl from Chipotle. I would guess we are talking roughly 1000 calories. I burn twice that much on a bike ride, and am still skinny as a rail, so it's not an issue for me.

Wow. Yeah, I tried to ignore the jaw-dropping calorie count as I was ordering.

I completely agree, never know what will happen. The ATM seems a good way to keep the fees low, but I'd suggest having some US dollars in reserve in case the ATM is rejected. I've had too many cases where my US cards didn't end up being accepted or compatible.

Speaking of which, if you planning on using any credit cards, probably debit cards and possibly the ATM card. Call the company and advise of your out of country plans. Otherwise many will not work as they do not default to allowing overseas transactions.

Last comment, credit cards can also be used to get cash but this is then treated as a cash advance, which will be at higher fees and interest rates.

Not surprised, just didn't want to see it.

In lieu of a garage, here's my shed. Typical, eh?

Yeah, don't bother with an exchange here. Take some US cash to convert. If the airport is big enough, they'll usually have a real bank somewhere inside (not the currency conversion stands). Or if there is a train station within the airport, sometimes they will do currency exchange also. They'll typically take ~5% up to a maximum dollar amount, so it's a little better to convert a larger dollar amount. Just beware that banks outside the airport may want you to have an account to exchange currency.
