No worries. I should have added the basement part in my rant.

Tonight I am having a cheap, subpar Italian Zinfandel (Primitivo) wine that is good as a generic red wine with decent acidity and fruit balance but completely devoid of Zinfandel characteristics. It is ok with the pizza I had and what can you expect for $6?

I miss good wine and friends to share it with. Before we came to the Atlanta area we had neighbors that we would have monthly wine nights with the whole nine yards. A wine for each course; appetizer, main course, dessert and then the "closer" wine. This was all done with music and conversation or board games. I knew I had it pretty good when it was going on and hoped it would last but those things usually don't and they didn't.:(

...today, riding out on the MUP, I saw a guy going the other way on a fat tyre recumbent trike. It reminded me of a small tractor, and I spent the next hour or so dreaming up ways you could use it to pull lightweight farm machinery.

...I drink a lot of the local stuff here in California, but lately there have been some significant price reductions of Rhone wines from France. I suspect it has something to do with the whole euro versus the dollar thing, but while it lasts I've been drinking Chateauneuf du Pape again.

A real climber, eh?

By it's very nature, farm machinery is anything but light weight.

I haven't noticed the drop in prices but I have been waiting for it since the Euro has been down near 1.05 or 1.10 for 2-3 years from 1.40 - 1.60 to the $. Chateauneuf du Pape? That is out my price range I think. Low end stuff is usually about $40 if I recall correctly. I have had Gigondas from northern the Rhone, I believe, and it was earthy, leathery and spicy with enough fruit for my palate back in the day. That stuff was about $20 if you found a bargain.

I've got an earlyish ride scheduled so I'm gonna hand it over to the late shift so I can turn in and get some shuteye. Last one out don't forget to circle the wagons.

If you like Italian, join WTSO (winetilsoldout.com). They have several discounted offers every day from all over but lots of Italian, many Brunellos and Barolos from the better years like 2010, 2011, 2012. Free shipping on orders that total about $75-100 (1-4 bottles). So good values. For good reasonably priced Zin I rely on Seghesio and Truett Hurst from the Dry Creek Valley. Seghesio Sonoma Valley base wine is available everywhere and can usually behad under $20. I also like the stuff from the Sierra Foothills like Miraflores and Terre Rouge/Easton. They both also have good Rhone varieties and blends.

Yes, exactly the thought I had, too. Lightweight maybe for hobby farm, but for real farming, heavy is where it's at.

But 3alarmer knows that already...

Rowan 10-07-17 09:21 PM

Having said that, strawberry farms and those that grow similar low-to-the-ground row crops have used trikes for workers to weed and harvest. But I haven't seen anything like that in ages.

Also... I have been thinking about electric diamond fat bikes to get about our four orchards during harvest seasons. So it's not all that farfetched.

Addictionites were out partying last night and are still hung over this morning, evidently.

Heathpack 10-08-17 06:38 AM

I'm up!

Chilling with some coffee before I get ready to go out & ride.

Trying out a new mountain bike park today.

Trsnrtr 10-08-17 06:50 AM

I’ve been up an hour. I’ve showered, breakfasted, made an Aeropress, and loaded two bikes in the van. I’m doing way better than normal. :thumb:

Do I understand you shower before riding?

That sounds awesome.

But you're right, seems nothing good lasts forever.

Uh huh, yeah I don't have that kind of budget for wine. Maybe once a year, holiday season, that's it. I'm fine with the $10-15 stuff on a regular basis.

Sometimes. I know this is TMI, but I generally shower after my rides which is 5-6 times a week, otherwise in the evening. But, If I haven’t ridden then I might try to slip by and do it the next day after a morning ride but often I wake up and can’t handle the feeling, so... today will be a twofer, before and after the ride. :)

Remember, you asked. ;)

Refrigerators is what gets me. 11-12 year average. Last fridge, I asked the guy if the $3000 one would last longer. Short answer -nope.

Yessir. Still trying to decide, as it looks like it may hit 22 tomorrow night, but then nowhere near freezing for the foreseeable future.

datlas 10-08-17 08:41 AM

Wet ride on the SS today. It may not last, but as of now I am the Addiction leader for the week on Strava.

We just replaced an interstate with a bad cell 23 months into its 30 month warranty.

They're all made in the same factory in Mexico anyhow...
