Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just got news of a robbery just up the street. Robbery is unheard of in these parts, btw. Borrachos(drunks). There are no weapons here, thankfully, but it is reported that the proprietor got punched in the nose, at least. There is a house, between there and here, where these guys and gals just sit and drink all day. I've often wondered where the money comes from. We have 3 (viscious?) dogs, so no worries here.

Ooops! Don't know my own strength. Damn front shift lever. Never use it anyway, but I don't want the bike to be unbalanced. Do you guys think some duct tape will fix this up? Or should I try to buff it out?

Are all the houses protected by bars on the doors and windows or iron fences like in so much of Latin America? Was it a burglary or actual robbery?

Funnily enough the replacement part is available on ebay, and there are plenty of YouTube videos showing how to repair it. $70 for the part, delivered. I just need to find out whether it would be covered under warranty instead, and if not, what my LBS would charge for the labor. I'm not sure I am up to pulling that thing apart...but maybe. Oh well, that is the hobby aspect of cycling, and I profess to really like it.

Should I report my mishap in the "Inconsistent Front Shifting" thread?

I haven’t ridden a bicycle in years, and the day of a Sherpa is packed. I’d have to rent a bike, if one is available this week other than the rental commuter bikes, and then hope my power is enough for the task. And not crash and wreck marathon training. In short, not really. Is it that special a ride?

Though funny story, we met a woman spectating who bought a crummy Wal-Mart bike to get around. Last year. She left it at the house, rented the same house, and it was still there. After a quick tuneup it wa better than last year.

Did that to my Rival front shifter years ago. Fortunately it was on the trainer, but it’s why I switched back to Shimano.

Amen! I got to wait 'til 8am when it warmed up to 38° - yee haw!

Like my old Audi, I think that my fuel mixture is a little richer in the cool air.

I should actually look for a used wheelset - unless there's some qualms about used wheelsets that I'm unaware of.

Doesn't matter - buy the new wheels and get the appropriate rotors for those wheels. Centerlock is more versatile, though, as they're easily adapted to 6-bolt.

Once again. I had the same question. I felt bad asking more questions so I thought I'd guess.

My DT350s are Campy centerlock quick release. This **** is complicated.
