Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So, one of the baseball moms here at the game had a "bike question"...

"I do pretty well at triathlon, and I run a lot faster than most of the 50 year old guys with these big bellies, but they absolutely smoke me on the bike! What's up with that?"

"Belly breathing," I say, "it's a bike thing those guys have been perfecting for years."

Obviously she needs to buy a faster bike.

Probably for realz. Do you happen to know what hers is?

And the bikes here in Kona are just stupid. There are 454s all over. And Di2, eTap, P5s, Plasmas, and $5k rigs seem downright pedestrian.

I'd feel bad if I recommend a better bike and her belly breathing doesn't improve.

Appreciate the effort.

Sadly, Steepandcheap is a piece of backcountry, as is Competitive Cyclist. Go to CC, and it has those same wheels, pretty much the same price, but with the CC backing, which is a good thing.

It will serve to keep a small portion of your forearms clean and dry, as long as you don't move around on the bike too much. This will become crucial in the future.

Hey @Bah Humbug, while you are there, do you have any chance to ride a bicycle up Mauna Kea?

Yeah, about 90% (fake math) of the stuff is from CC/Backcountry, though they move a lot of their returns there (S&C) and they're good deals (if you're willing to buy a return/refurb).

Definition of luxury: not having to rush out of the house so early to beat the heat on a ride. Being able to wait until 10:00 AM for it to warm up 70°F.
