Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We've dropped into the golden age of our annual weather cycle. We likely won't break 85A for the next two months. A little chilly for VeloVol, but idyllic for the rest of us. I can dawdle as long as I want and it will still be nice out to go riding. I ordered a pair of Continental Ultra Sport tires this morning, from Ribble. I've been wanting to try them, and they are on sale for $11.xx apiece. It's been a long while since I've ridden 25mm tires. Mrs. Seeds will bring them back with her from her Christmas trip.

As a Browns fan, I am glad to see Wentz doing so well for you. I am also thrilled the Browns passed on him, as he would have likely been crushed on my team.

Yes. Plain dates, dates in cereal, dates in desserts.

Oh you would love the Coachella Valley then. Warm temps, sunshine and dates galore.

To make a date shake, you chop dates finely and add water to make a paste. Medjool dates are best for this because the skin is thin and they blend more easily into the shake. Let the mix sit in the fridge at least over night. After that, you can portion it out and keep it in the freezer if you won't use it right away.

I just cheat and buy date paste, but I'm not sure how easy that is to buy outside of SoCal or the Middle East.

Then blend a good amount of date paste (2-4 tablespoons, depending on the size of your shake) with vanilla ice cream and milk.

To have a recovery drink instead, blend less date paste with milk and just maybe a spoonful of ice cream to thicken it up, plus whey protein isolate and a little powdered glutamine. It's really tasty. I realize you won't actually make any of this, but now you know what Im talking about...

It is indeed breezy. I went out for a quick ride. I even took a picture of a wooden covered bridge and put it on my Strava feed.

Of course my Strava app is not working right, so the route looks funny and they took half off.

Would you consider yourself a glutamine advocate? You feel it helps? Some consider it hooey.

I'm asking because I've been thinking about glutamine lately. The guys I play softball with have roped me into playing basketball with them lately, now that softball season is done. Basketball is considerably harder on my joints so I'm wondering what I might turn to for relief from those arthritic pains besides motrin after every game. I can barely walk after a basketball session.

That has some appeal now because the Tennessee Valley definitely isn't warm.

Maybe there are date types much different from the ones I've had in the store here? Because I won't in 100 years think of putting them in a lettuce salad. Ugh.

How far away is the nearest covered bridge?

Did you try un/reinstalling Strava

Sheeder's is nice, but the one I saw was Knox Covered Bridge. Here is a stock pic. I will try to upload my own in a minute if I can figure it out.

Nearest covered bridge is about 5 miles away.

Did not try uninstall trick. Will give it a shot later but I don't hold much hope.

Oh, I set up my KICKR Snap so may try a Zwift session later today.

We have a lovely concert to attend later today. It's the "Chester County Youth Orchestra" fall concert. Heidi is playing Oboe. Those double reed instrument players are temperamental...

Oh, good news on the datlas family music front. Heidi made it into District Band and Orchestra. Hannah made it into District Band, Orchestra, AND Choir. More concerts to come.
