Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

@LAJ, I had to check back in before your Christmas light photos, because nothing says winter like those
Soon, @RollCNY. Soon. Hope your fingers healed OK.

Be careful on that motorized thing.

I believe @DougRNS meant.... Don't most people know how to just plain eat in here.

Rant on:

My Sirus/XM app quit on my iPhone; won't validate my password. So, I ask to reset my PW and I go through the whole email, reset, verify, etc. and it still refuses. I try probably 10-15x over the last three days. Reset several times to no avail. So, I try again tonight and now it doesn't have my username or email anymore. I don't exist.

I go to their website and get a phone #. Call center is open Monday to Saturday from 8AM to 11PM ET according to their website. Nope. I get a recording that it's only 8AM to 8PM.

Jeez, they've always had a flaky website, billing software, etc. but this takes everything to a new low.

New rant: I order a new trike from England and its coming two business days from England. Today, I get an email saying that it's being held up by Homeland Security in Memphis for a form CF5106. I call Fed EX and they email me the form to fill out and say they will contact the Homeland Security office for an email to send it to. Should take no more than 2 hours. 6 hours later and no email so I call FedEx again and they say they will call me back with the email. That was 4 hours ago.

It seems that Homeland Security just needs a SS# to verify my identity, thus the form. Shouldn't HS be able to verify everything with their super duper computer systems? They've already got my name and address. What good is a piece of paper from me saying that I am who I say I am?

Rant off. been a lousy day.

The shop owner had her 50th birthday party. Some margaritas were had. Also a cake, which was gluten-free and vegan. It wasn't much of a cake.

Beets are good food. But they have an inordinate presence in Aussie and New Zealand cuisine. I mean everywhere. Toward the end of the trip I neglected to have them omitted from a burger. We departed for home soon afterward, but make no mistake, even if we had stayed a lifetime, I would not have made that error again.

Beets suck. I'm just happy I found a beet supplement that rocks.

Yes, but the problem is we frequently get requests to make some popular thread a sticky somewhere. Too many stickies become a problem on a lot of fronts, so it's got to be a good reason to make one. So how can we make this thread a sticky and say no to the others? Particularly since there are 3 mods that hang out in this one, there will be endless accusations of favoritism.

I ordered some spices from Penzeys Spices. If you ordered $X you got Y for free.

So I made sure my order was a little over $X. Then I get my order confirmation and it doesn't include Y.

I call Customer Service and they are closed, it was Sunday evening when I placed the order.

Monday morning, I call again, ready for an annoyance.

I tell the Customer Service woman my story and she says, Oh there's a drop down menu that appears for orders of $X, youre supposed to add Y to your order from that menu. But I could see how you might have missed it, no problem, I'll just add Y to the order. Is there anything else I can help you with?

No, and thank you.

I hung up and was a little stunned. Something that should have taken 1 minute did in fact take one minute. I got a customer service rep who was able to understand what I was talking about, could see what the problem was, knew how to correct the problem and gave me zero attitude about helping me out.

That's how it should be of course. Sad commentary that I was pleasantly stunned by something like that.

Maybe Penzeys Spices can start delivering music to people too..,
