I almost got nailed on the ride home tonight.
Narrow residential street, stop signs every block, 2 sets of speed bumps between each stop.
I was rockin the hi-viz jersey and bright headlight. It was overcast before sundown. I was riding towards the sun, so that wasn't a factor.
Car coming from opposite direction turns left in front of me after going over a speed bump.
I was going about 20, hit the brakes, started to swerve to go around, slid back tire to turn faster, let back tire hook up while feathering front brake, and zipped around the front of the car before it hit me.
I felt like Sagan with that move.
Oddly, it was the exact same spot I was hit and hospitalized a few years ago.

The Wednesday ride is a FUN ride, not a hammer fest. We leave from West Chester, PA. There is an amazingly good French bakery (Baker is from Lyon) which is the start/finish spot.
PS we still had an (ugh) average speed of 18 so it’s not a slow ride.

T-minus one month and counting. Found a caboose in Chester, MA that I can rent for the night after the reunion is over. Only $60. Looks neat. Earplugs will be necessary as it is 50' from the busy CSX main line through the state.

Refurbished New York Central caboose from 1919:
Welcome to the Chester Railway Station
Correction: It's only 20' from the main line.
Plenty of places in the U.S. where you can spend the night in a restored caboose.

Went out for first ride with new wheels. They feel great, but I do have an annoying creak that I can't isolate and it's a nuisance. I also have a new crank so I am thinking I have to remove/grease/retorque the crankarm bolts, that is the usual culprit.

Funny patient story of the day.
About 15 years ago, I had a relatively new patient who was about 75 years old. She had a diagnosis of a benign small cyst in her head, I think it was an arachnoid cyst but that does not matter. She had seen a neurosurgeon several years earlier who saw her yearly and told her it was not growing but she MUST get an annual MRI. This had been going on for many years and the cyst was not growing or changing.
She saw me and I told her that since she had so many annual MRI's and this cyst had not changed for YEARS that getting an annual MRI going forward was really not necessary.
She was INCENSED! How dare I contradict the mandate from the neurosurgeon. She needs an MRI EVERY YEAR!
She chose to find another doctor, and probably told all her friends what a bad doctor Dr datlas is.
Sigh.

They are previous generation Reynolds Assaults. They seem fine. Stiff. They are on extended loan from a bike club friend who doesn't really like them. I tried to post a pic but site would not let me. I think I have an old one...

Apparently May 8th is National Have a Coke Day since it's their 131st birthday. They just moved their HQ to my office building and invited the entire office park to a Coke and cake. I'm going to pass. Coke is disgusting.

[3] New York (Westchester County): coyote, human exposure
Date: Tue 1 May 2018
Source: New York Post [edited]<https://nypost.com/2018/05/01/coyote...rl-had-rabies/>
The coyote that viciously bit a 5-year-old girl at a Westchester county playground before being tackled by a cop was suffering from rabies, health officials said [Tue 1 May 2018]. "We got results back and it did test positive for rabies," Catherine Cioffi, communications director of the Westchester County Health Department, told The Post.
The child, [NK-P], had been playing at James Carroll Park in Thornwood with her mom and brother [Sun 29 Apr 2018] when the animal darted at full speed toward them and bit her left arm. The girl was saved from the animal by off-duty local cop Arcangelo Liberatore, who tackled and wrestled it to the ground. The coyote left the girl with a bite wound, her mom with a nip, and the officer with a scrape that came in contact with the animal's saliva.

As aggravating as your day might get, just remember- you didn't have to wrestle a rapid coyote.
Carry on.
