The new mountain bike: jeepers. Such. A. Sweet. Ride.
QOM and a big fat PR on the climb from Little Harbor to the Airport here on Catalina Island, 6.5 miles/1500 ft. Admittedly I was doing threshold intervals for 25 of the 59 min, but still. I am wowed.
On my test ride this bike had remarkable perfect shifting, then Mr H moved my shifter a little inboard and somehow this totally jacked up my shifting, jolted me off the bike twice. In and out of cell reception so eventually I got in touch and he told me how to adjust cable tension with the barrel adjuster. I did that and it was better.
But not normal and then I dropped my chain on the way home. Got off the bike to take a look and my derailleur was jammed up tight against my ($400) cassette. Yikes. Trouble shot it a little, tried to get it into a bigger gear, couldn’t. Called spouse who couldn’t picture what I was saying which typically translates into not really believing what I’m saying.
”Send pics”. Ok I try but it’s just in shadows and hard to see anything. I pick up my amazingly light bike and hike up to the top of the climb, in part to get out of the road and in part because it was sunnier there and I thought I could take a better pic.
No dice, I’m not feeling like I’m gonna solve this and it’s gonna be a long hike back, carrying the bike.
And just then, I see an LA County Fire pick up truck driving up the hill. Flag him down, ask if he’s heading back to town. He is and I catch a very pleasant lift.
Mr H looks at the bike and his first impression is that the derailleur is jacked. But eventually he sorts it out and it was just majorly slack cable tension in the shift cable. Seems to be back to perfect shifting now.
tl/dr nice ride today

I was riding along slack jawed making all kinds of plans for what I’m gonna do with this incredible bike and I was thinking of those tiresome BF posters who always insist “it’s not about the bike”.
Oh it so very much IS about the bike. 😁😁😁
A little sad for people too curmudgeonly to even believe that amazing bikes exist. They never get to experience stuff like this, because they’re closed off to the possibility.
Not that I care who rides what. Just that’s it’s a great feeling to be wowed by something.

Better late than never feedback
the mobile site sucks but is more stable for my crappy apple product called iPad. Usability of site outweighs functionality. In this day and age, a compromise I would rather not make. Of course I get to plug into VV's quality content gleaned from Twitter. 😄🚫🆒 Sad!

Did my first road tubeless install today, although 28mm is barely road. Found it odd that the Hutchinson packaging said 99 psi was ideal. Sounds excessive for 28s.
Unless maybe gross vehicle weight is 300ish.

mostly little things due to unfamiliarity. I like the info under the avatar and that is missing, I like to pick a page to jump to by clicking on it rather than filling in the "go to" box, mentions disappear so you don't know who is being mentioned in a post. It is "cleaner" and more modern but I still haven't gotten used to it. I have no choice because the web version is unstable and constantly errors out. So that sucks too. I am sure I will eventually get used to it.
the strike through option in both versions is an upgrade and is used more now that it is an icon to click in the tool bar.
for example: mobile sitesucks is unfamiliar to me.
eta: you also can't click on a quoted post and go back to the quoted post for context etc.
eta2: you can't expand the size of a picture or anything for that matter. Sometimes I like to do that since my eyes are as old as me. The list will grow if I think more but I can't use the web version so I better deal.
