Won the State TT today, Women’s 50-54 yr old age group.
Beat the State Road Race Champ by 3.5 min. She was my 30 second woman, the contender besides me, and I passed her at the 13 min mark. It’s a little hard to stay in the effort at that point and I’m not that happy with how I raced. But whatever. Won the thing which was my only real goal on a bike this year.
A teammate won the men’s 35-39 race. My TT women friends, the four of us who race all the local TTs, all won our races- the 45-49, 50-54 (me), 55-59 and women’s cat 4 (the woman who won this one is 57, but the cat 4 distance is 40k whereas the 50-59 is 17k and she wanted to race the longer distance).
I have two more races this week- a 5k and a 10k TT, qualifiers for next year’s National Senior Games. Then: heading to Big Bear to ride mountain bikes. Im thinking of try to do this fondo in Sept. The 50k route. Big Bear Gran Fondo 50k Skyline Right now it would be an achievement for me to just ride this route, period. Let alone do it fast.

When we were in Belize traveling years ago, we stayed at a place called the Banana Bank Ranch. It was on the first wave of eco tourism before that was even really a thing. Lots of memorable things happened there involving a spider monkey, a howler monkey, a jaguar, a peccary and an enormous spider.
But one other memorable thing was the Toad Crossing sign in the hallway of the main house. Toads hopped in and toads hopped out. Normal part of life. It completely made sense in context.
I remember when we got back from Belize the first thing we did was visit my cousin in Orlando and go to Disneyworld. America seemed like the strange place to us then.

Picture sharing time! We were in Palm Springs last week, I had a rental bike for a couple of days. There's a famous tram that ascends Mt. San Jacinto, and the access road to the tram is a 3 mile climb at 9% average, was a solid little workout, here's the view near the top-
Fortunately my rental had discs because that straight shot descent with very gusty winds was sketchy.

Since it's donut day and there's a bakery next to one of my favorite bike shops, I figured I'd hit up both. Fondled both the Silca Ti Torque ratchet and a Silca tool roll with a Boa closure (to fasten to the saddle rails). They are overkill and, it should got without saying, I want them both.

I rode today. 72 degree dew point which is categorized as oppressive. Felt ok, speed for this ride seems like it was down .5 mph. Tomorrow I am going to the trail and will have a better gauge of how far I have fallen. i can usually hit 16.9 at 75% effort there. I will be riding in the heat of the day so that won't be fun. Still have junk in my lungs. It is good to know that I am back on the road and on the road to recovery.

No, but it looks almost like he does.. It was pretty strange. He ate it head first and took it in gulp by gulp an inch at a time. Feet and tail, the whole thing. It was fresh road kill by a car I think, it had some fresh blood on it. I was looking the other way until he already had some of it in his mouth. After he started eating it he made sure I knew he would be pissed if I tired to get close to his mouth. I can take regular dog food away from him with my hands. Not the possum. I was sure the bones would give him problems. Nope no problems. Except every time we walk, he wants to go over there. I watch very carefully now. I guess the bones digest fully for the wild wolf or coyote.
