Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I used to hate walking Moose. He was so alpha that he just HAD to leave "updates" all along the walking route to remind all others that this was HIS territory. By the time we were headed back home he'd be bone-dry empty, and his frustration was palpable that he had no more reminders to give.

I had a once per revolution click. I swapped pedals, and it went away.

Could have been BB, but I needed BB service anyways, and the noise persisted after new cartridge.

The state of youth.

Yesterday I was at a hockey game. Went to buy food - found something that was 6$. Gave the girl 21$, and she hands me back 10$ as change. I point out that this was incorrect. She seemed confused, picked up her phone and did the math. Then apologises and hands me 5$ more.

So what are kids really learning in school these days? I can only hope that there are smarter ones are out there - just not selling food at the arena.

Could be in the 80s next weekend. Should at least be in the 60s. I smell a three-day tour in my future.

Looks yummy. I did our little gravel-grider ride (with 5 friends, the official ride has been postponed), which was HARD, and came home to fresh French Toast and scrambled eggs.

I was planning to watch the replay of Paris-Roubaix, but on my way home a "friend" sends me a text, stating "you heard it here first, ________ won Paris Roubaix!" What a schmuck. I don't like spoilers.

I went through everything I could think of to get rid of such a click. After putting in new BB cups/bearings and new pedals, I discovered it was the chain catcher just a smidgen too close to the crank and hitting a proud chainring bolt. A small push to the left and tightening of the fixing bolt...voila, fixed. A few bucks wasted.

Today's off-road ride was interesting. The scenery was GORGEOUS but if you took your eyes off the road it was quite risky since the trails were gravelly and lots of holes, debris etc.

So looking at the beautiful landscape is like looking at the sun, you can only glance for a split second or use peripheral vision. Looking at it directly is dangerous.

I guess I had better start on the personal taxes. I mean I don’t want to push this too early, but Mrs. rpen is getting edgy. Maybe tonight...or not...

Was this on one of your road bikes or was it on a CX/gravel bike?
