Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Don't forget the preponderance of law enforcement shows the last several years, led by Law & Order, which I particularly hate, along with all the current forensic evidence shows. Those types of shows have to have at least a hint of lighthearted humor in it for me to enjoy. If it's serious police work, I hate it. Right now I get a kick out of Lucifer and Lethal Weapon (tv series). I enjoy a few sitcoms, but once the NBA playoffs are done there's no sports for me to watch until September football.

We did really well. I've been worried about moving because both houses were supposed to close on the same day. Luckily, we're being allowed to move small stuff into the garage of our new house and we got a 3 day extension on our old house so it's going to be an easy move. We barely have enough big stuff left for a small trailer load and I can move boxes in my van if I have to. We're only moving 3.5 miles away and I can make a lot of trips with my van for boxes. No longer worrying.

We've got law and order reruns every Sunday all morning. Mrs F loves the show. I try not to watch but end up drawn in.

What ruins it for me is any fake computer forensics.

When in the USA, and with access to a tv, and left to my own devices, I watch 1)Seinfeld, 2)the old Andy of Mayberry, and sports.

Oh god yes. I've even met people who say what TV needs is more police procedurals, without a hint of irony. On the point of humor, I'm enjoying Hawai'i 5-0 right now for the trainer and background, but that's going to get old eventually (the pattern for identifying the culprit is much too easy). After that... I'll have to figure something out.

Mrs BD loves Law & Order too, she'd watch it all day if she wasn't otherwise occupied. That and cooking shows and home improvement shows. Can't stomach none of her stuff. *barf*

I know - I just think that it was a coup to get a guy like Andre Braugher, made famous by a police drama, to play a very funny straight man. It's a fun show that I come back to every so often - I'll binge it over a couple weeks, forget about for 18-24 months, rinse, repeat.

I'm so mad right now I could just spit. Just finished inspecting my backyard. Last night we arrive home after dinner to discover 3 deer scurrying to exit the property. I suspected the worse. Sure enough, upon inspection I discover they ate all my emerging tulips, which are the headliners of any spring flower gardens in the northeast. Sum beeches!!!!

And people wonder how you could hate those cute little animals . . . first of all they're far from little, run into one with your car one day and see how much damage they can cause. Then they eat up all of your fancy and pricey landscaping. Finally they carry disease-causing ticks. Ever had lyme, guess how much fun that is? Sum beeches!!!

Yes, Cpt. Holt never cracks a smile despite all the nonsense constantly going on around him.

Tenderize the back strap and add your favorite dry rub, spread with cream cheese and jalapenos, roll up and barbeque for 5-10 minutes. Quite a tasty appetizer.

Just sayin'.

I’ve always thought calling the venison striploin/ribeye the “backstrap’” was funny. Don’t ask me why. But every food mammal has one, and that is the only one that is called a backstrap. Well maybe also other game animals in the same general family like elk and moose. Not domestic mammals. I dunno. It just seems so odd. I can’t imagine asking a butcher for a pork backstrap. That is all for now.

The twin 4x8 raised beds will be dismantled this year. They will be replaced with some sort of whisky-barrel-based configuration.

I've had it twice too. So far. Tick season has swung around again.

And people wonder why I love winter, no tick worries is a big part of it.

Rode with a friend this morning who wanted to show me some new trails. There is an open space around 10 min from my house, the town told the promoter of our local summer weekenight mtb race series that he could put some trails back there. Wow, so much fun. Lots of switchbacky single track stuff and right now the place is full of wild flowers.

He had asked me what I wanted to do before we set up the ride and I said: whatever, some single track, nothing too steep.

So we ride the single track stuff and then he says Let’s grind it out up some fireroad stuff

Ok. Then he proceeds to drag me up a bunch of steep stuff, some of it in the 20-30% range, which is hike a bike for me. But it was a pretty fine morning.

11 miles, 1800 ft.
