Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I would say so if I did.

Around here I don't ride at any particular speed for very long.

Loading up the family assault vehicle for a 50 mile organized ride. Sort of sad as the German gentleman, Karl, passed away this year. The old guy was the chairman for this ride since its inception 24 years ago. Nothing fancy about the ride but still a fun diversion on a lazy August Saturday morning.

Well at least I'm sure everyone will be remembering him today. Have fun, be safe!

Skin on the mayo. Love it! Gets a little translucent around the edges too. I’d probably eat it.

New bike came, inexplicably, with 40mm tires, which look silly and are slow on the road, but this morning I took it hooning for about 20 mi through the woods on the nearby canal towpath. Holy cow, that was fun and a reminder that I have zero off-road skills.

Hitting the Sonic after the ride!

Pickle juice slushy, and a couple of recovery chili cheese dogs.

Does pickle juice make for a good energy drink? I've thought about adding some to my water bottle.

I had a recovery pulled pork sandwich after today's 50 miler. For veggies, there were cole slaw, potato salad, and Doritos.

During the ride, I had a 1/4 apple and an Oats & Honey bar. I had no energy drinks or pickle juice.

It was in the same area as my previous sighting, so I guess it could have been the same couple.

Not that I know of. I think sales peaked in the mid 90s to mid 00s.

Getting in to tandem ownership/riding is not for the faint of heart. Tandems are a boutique machine and the prices reflect that. I'm not going to quote prices but peruse Tandems East, Precision Tandems, or Tandems, Ltd websites and look at the prices. Pretty tough to get people to shell out thousands and thousands for a machine they might not even be able to ride. It's no wonder that tandem rallies and tours, and there are many, are full of older affluent couples.

Busy weekend in Lake Placid. The town and region seem to be overrun with triathletes. We had a fantastic ride today. Here is a pic at the top of Whiteface.

Here on the mobile site, we don't get the pic until we quote it to say we didn't get it.
