Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Today I learned that my Park Tools bike cable cutters also function perfectly as doggy nail trimmers. Should I submit this to GCN as a hack/bodge?

Yes. Please include how many times did you got bit.

My dog was the most gentle creature imaginable, but she would practically fight you to the death when you tried to trim her nails.

I would never even attempt to cut my current cat's nails. When I first got him he needed them cut. I asked my vet to do it when he was there for a routine visit. It took two vet techs to hold him down, and one of them was not small woman. Major drama.

I think that you'd have to use doggy nail trimmers as cable cutters, instead.

I'd say less than 10% of the people in VA's major metro areas (RVA, NoVA, VA Beach) have a distinct Southern accent. NTTAWWT.

Yea, she isn't a big fan of it. She doesn't growl but she does have this sort of annoyed moan she lets out when you try to hold her paw and cut the nail, she licks your hands furiously while you do it but no biting.

Beautiful mountains, but way too buggy/steamy for me - I'm in NC, only 60 miles south and go to meetings in Richmond frequently - pretty much same as NC. I was born in Norfolk but as a Navy brat didn't stay long enough to remember.

Different strokes, you know. There are people who love the East and similar landscapes, and they are not wrong - it's where they feel "at home"

Same goes for any other region or landscape - for every one there are people who feel at home there.
I know folks who can't understand why I feel at home in the Rocky Mountains and high desert canyons - they get agoraphobic in those big spaces. I get it - not their vibe. It is totally mine.

The East is not my vibe, but I get that it is "home" for others. Cool. I'm selling a great little house in Chapel Hill in a couple of years.... PM me.......

They're beautiful . . . during their two-month long warm season, and then it's freezing cold.

Only true in the high alpine valleys (9,000'+ elevations). There's alot of climate variation out there depending on location. You could be skiing at Breckenrige in 30-35 degree temps (tee shirt weather on a sunny deck up there, btw), and at the same time folks in Denver or Grand Junction/Fruita can be doing any variety of outdoor endeavors in 50+ degree sunshine, even in Winter. Since 2000 I spent 2 years at over 10,000 feet (Alma, CO) - that was beautiful but too high - that's where Summer is no more than 2 months. 5 years in Salt Lake City, where I bike commuted year round, a touch over 2 years in Grand Junction, and a little over a year (in the 90's) in Colorado Springs. Plus 2 years on the west side of Las Vegas, and 2 years in Calgary, Alberta. Now THAT was a bit colder than I prefer, but I got used to it.

I found myself doing far more outdoor activities year round in that environment than when I lived in Eastern Tennessee, with its many consecutive days of mid 30's and rain or wet snow during Winter, and steamy summer days.
Again, I think alot is what your vibe is. Different strokes. I found that the Knoxville area (and NC where I am now, for that matter) offers about 6 months of stunningly beautiful weather - long Fall and spring - where I love to be outdoors. The other 6 months, not so much.

No snow yet.

Don't tell @DougRNS this, but........ His shovel may be just good enough for the southern hemisphere where you two live, but our snow would destroy that little thing that he's so proud of.

It's great when it's freezing cold, actually it's gotta stay below 26° or so to make sure that snow plus sun don't equal mud.

Emphasis added for the winter snobs here who think that @Velo Vol doesn't endure frigid weather.

I don't think anyone said it didn't get cold in the East. Just wetter and greyer.
