Depressing! I'm already freezing here in my office in a heavy sweater and it's, what, 45º out? I have no idea how I'll get through another five months of this ****.

Possibly.
I took the plunge last year. It has some benefits but really depends on your goals and personality. I would be happy to share the good/bad/ugly about it if you want the straight dope.

Today’s ride, only 15 miles but it was very pretty.

Now that I'm at least temporarily back, I need to learn how to behave in a normal (by addiction standards) manner. In the other forums, it's no issue, because everybody is behaving normally, and there is no inclination to slide into sarcasm, and/or questionable judgement. The catch, for me, is that questionable judgement for the everyday American can sometimes be the norm for the likes of me. An age has passed since I was considered a normal American. So, when I slide into questionable judgement, it has the potential to strike too deep. Thus the redaction. I didn't want to get banned, again, on my first day back.

OK, here is my unsolicited take on trainers and Zwift...
If you have the discipline to hop on a dumb trainer and do a good workout (using power or HRM or even RPE), then good on you. You may not need any game-ification or distractions like Zwift.
I, however, do not have that much discipline. Whenever I get on the trainer or rollers with plans to do a 1 hour workout, I find that I start looking at my watch at the 5 minute mark and usually throw in the towel by 15 or 20 minutes. Part of what I like about group cycling is the camaraderie and scenery. Zwift recreates that, but virtually. So when I use Zwift I am actually able to enjoy the workout and can do an hour without giving up. I sometimes even do virtual group rides with my friends (we use the discord app to chat).
So the benefit of Zwift is it makes the trainer ride more like a group ride (or a race, if you are competitive).
YMMV.

I can't jump on the trainer and "work out" for an hour, but if I have a plan for a set of intervals and something interesting to listen to, I'm all set. I'm sure I would enjoy Zwift or similar, especially on a large screen, but I don't have room for that in my tiny basement.

This place is a bit over-moderated for my taste. Whatever you did, it wouldn't be over 55th percentile obnoxious, obscene, or politically incorrect, on Sailing Anarchy

A whole different ethos, very few women, and a different set of advertisers. Not saying it's good. I left after many years because of misogyny, racism, and homophobia.
