Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes, baseball is back! How are the Snakes going to do this year without Goldy? Interesting matchups today. Cleveland at Minnesota should be brisk.

Err D-Backs, yeah that's it.

They're playing BoSox here, so opening day tix are expensive. I might go see a game when they play the Rangers, $9 for nosebleed is more my style!

Either way, I saw one ONCE on the trail while running back in CO, and that was one hell of a sprint I put in.

I rode right by one that was sunning itself at the edge of an MUP. Didn't even notice it. The GF asked me if I saw the snake. She must have known I didn't because I always point out animals I see. Stopped, went back and saw that it was a young rattler.

I almost crashed once flying down a hill and I caught a glimpse of one just about a foot to the right of me. If I'd seen him sooner I would have ridden farther away from him but I didn't see him til I was right on top of him. Eeek!

I had a rare thing happen to me today, or at least rare for me. About 32 miles in to a 40 mile ride, my gears started hopping and jumping and couldn't find a gear anywhere. I stopped and found a bent link with rock dust al l over it. I must have jammed a small rock and crushed it out. Being the minimalist that I am, I had no chain tool or 11 speed quick link to break the chain and put it back together. I worked the link back and forth for at least 5 minutes and finally got it loose enough to get home - not perfect but I got back.

In the meantime, my wife texted me and wanted to know when I was getting home. Then she wanted to come get me but I wouldn't let her. In 225,468 logged miles, I've only got a ride three times - twice when I ran out of tubes in the middle of rides and once when I collapsed from a combo of heat and anemia 92 miles into a century.

Hey! I'm leading the Addictionites leader board for the first time this year. It won't last because we have bad weather coming the next three days but I'm looking good at the moment.

I will begin the challenge tomorrow. Won't do me any good for this week, but next week watch out! I finished that high chair and loaded it into the car a few minutes ago. I am a free man. The Mrs.will deliver it shortly.
