Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This morning, getting ready to ride, I checked Weather Underground, which showed about a 20% chance of rain. Boy was that accurate, because I swear it rained for about 20% of the time I was riding. It wasn't TOO bad, though. I tried out my new "Velotoze" overshoes, which would probably have kept my feet dry if my shoes weren't still wet from yesterday. I also used that SKS S-blade fender thingie, and wow, does it make a difference! No wheel spray up my back, no soggy shorts, no accumulation of mud at the Saddle/Buttcrack interface.

The only things that kept it from being more fun was the scraping sound from the disc brakes every time I went through a puddle (not sure how water about a foot away from the discs causes that problem, but it does), and eventually it got so annoying I stopped at a place that has a tap at about knee height and flushed both brakes with water, THAT worked. The other thing was that I flatted, but fortunately not while it was raining. In fact the sun came out for a bit while I struggled to get the tire back on the rim (GP5000s, knawm sayin?) But I got it fixed and got home without incident. I think I need a 10-pack of tubes.

Isn't it the spray of gritty droplets as you ride through?

Got in 27 miles with bampilot today, plying Mesa and Gilbert's finest canal and powerline paths, nice mix of gravel and paved on MTBs. It was supposed to be only 25 miles but I took a wrong turn somewhere to give us bonus miles and almost took another wrong turn for even more bonus miles but asked a man on the street how to get to where I was going

1) Not canals

2) The right mixture is 100% paved, 0% gravel

I always wonder whether people actually had the attention span (and free time) to read a lengthy block of text in a magazine ad, or if the ad men were just clueless.

It's a couple paragraphs. About 1/3 the length of genejockey 's average post.

Any of our Mac guys using OS Ventura yet?

How is it?

I didn't even get a notice of an update, somebody's slipping, either them or me.

Apparently, me riding with Lester yesterday was a problem. I’m trying to figure out what the problem was. Something about if there was an emergency I was unreachable. The part where I am 1900 miles away though, wasn’t the issue.
