Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Man Zwift is really frustrating me. 3 group/ meet up rides. 1st one no communications, companion didn't work but I was allowed to ride with the group. 2nd ride kicked me off completely. 3rd one no communication again, I was allowed to ride with them but was not linked with them in the ride. If I fall off I had to do the work to stay with them.
I bought the Tickr X heart monitor so I could still do this group ride stuff through companion app. Then last night the snap came off the strap. The old strap from the original doesn't really work with the X , heart rates are way off. So now I get to do a warranty claim. Yea..

Someone dug theyself a hole in a dry lake bed and piled the dredge spoil next to it. The tongues on the hole and the pile are ramps for equipment.

I had a Wahoo HRM that was erratic and unpredictable. I bit the bullet and bought a Garmin and it’s been great so far. I put that one in the swim bag and bought another one to keep with the bikes in the basement.

We only had a little bit of thunder, lightning, and rain this morning, but it sure has been windy. Might have to scout out some tailwind Strava segments to ride today

I drove up to NH last night. Have to leave tomorrow afternoon, but there’s supposed to be a storm that rolls through this afternoon and sticks overnight. Tomorrow should be interesting.

Speaking of HRM.

I have what ever Moalpha told me to buy 3 years ago. I forgot the brand, goes on the arm.
It’s been great really no issues, sometimes It will start showing numbers that don’t make sense but it’s few and rare.

Today, it decided to do that. I was doing long intervals, 5 mins at threshold heart rate.

The first 4 sets were fine. Maybe once or twice did is show my heart rate starting to go down when I am pretty sure it wasn’t. Example. Trying to maintain 165. It’s showing 165 and then all of a sudden drops to 156 155 154 and then jumps back up to 167.

Last set it took way too long getting my heart rate above threshold. I dialed it up and my HR was at 120 to start. I cranked it hard for about a half a mile, and it did this slow climb 120 121 122 123 124 124 125. and so on. I could tell I was in the 160s but I didn’t want to start the interval til it was registering that I was indeed at threshold. It climbed to about 145 and stopped. At that point I started the interval. I knew it was wrong, but I only had so much road left to complete the interval. It did eventually register threshold. I just don’t know what took so long.

Guy from Saturday posted a couple pics. Here is the group who did the whole route in front of Westlake, a man made recreational lake for those who can afford it, with some random guy cruising by.

I'm happy discussing anything. My issue is that catering to complaints of too much car talk when the complainers don't post much that starts a conversation seems pretty much like "give every kid a trophy even if not earned."

Frankly, I'd rather have car, boat, camera, cat, dog, snakes, varmin, vacation, TV, music, diet, ride, race, and poop talk than all the whining about physical ailments, leaf raking, etc., but i don't complain and dont have a problem with anyone posting whatever they want. Conversations tend to follow their courses, and change as interests change. If one is feeling left out, they should post something that evokes comment and starts a conversation. If no conversation occurs, then we move on.

But, not my website so not my rules. And, I'm a relative newcomer so it is what it is, and I'm not going to ask anyone to change.

Silversun Pickups are in our area tomorrow evening

tempted to attend

they have some S Pumpkins in some of their stuff ... ‘shoe gaze’

Butch Vig apparently assisted or produced their most recent album ; Vig worked with Nirvana and the S Pumpkins in the past

Amen.

Though adjacent to leaf-raking, the gloves worked a charm this morning. The Gobi gloves + my normal gloves let me shovel everything without issue, whereas with just HotHands + normal gloves I'd frequently have to pull my fingers into the palms to prevent the attacks. Still not pleasant, but it's an absolute game-changer.

Meanwhile, of course, it's summer back home.

Forecast has lows just into the 40s, and highs mostly around 80. It looks like the very end of the 10-day might cool off a little, but that far out is a guess anyway.
