Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Our vacuum cleaner is manually operated and doesn't require algorithm or mapping.

This will be the Next Big Thing - GPS-linked automatic shifting. It'll know when you hit the bottom of that steep pitch and will select the right gear for you. It'll have a sensor in the saddle, so when you stand up it will automatically shift two cogs higher, and then back down when you sit. The problem will be when it suddenly thinks you're in Nebraska in the middle of a steep climb and shifts into the big ring because it thinks you're on a flat road.

“I can’t ride my bike because it won’t connect to the internet” is coming. That’s when I become a retrogrouch.

When you go to the bike shop for some cables, and they ask you "USB-C or Lightning?" you'll know it's gone too far.

I use a vacuum on the carpeted part of the house and a knockoff roomba on the tile (except the bathroom where I opt to use a broom).

One of my friends has a side gig wrenching on bikes out of his shed.

Twice in the past week, friends have approached him to change freewheels and put on new chains.

In both cases, chains were bought off Amazon and were counterfeit.

When I read the first line for the first time, I thought it said, 'A side gig wrenching bikes out of his shed', which was like what I just did to get the Canyon out from behind two other bikes so I could prep it for tomorrow's ride.
