Nope. The border agents were actually two nice young folks. There is a line on the road where you are supposed to stop and wait until you are waved forward. When we got waved on, the car behind us must have figured that we didn't count as vehicles because we were on bikes and started to move forward. The drover got an earful from the agents.
The agents told us that a lot of young Canadians like to cross and try to sneak back cigarettes and beer because they are much cheaper in Montana.
When we crossed into B.C. a few days earlier at Roosville, we got the 3rd. degree from the Canadian border agent. She asked us what we did for livings and at one point blurted out "When is your next day back at work?" It was the third day of our vacation. I didn't even know what the date was that day. Fortunately, my GF was good with things like that.
The funniest reentry I have ever had was while riding across the country. Two of us got to the Del Bonito, AB border crossing., but there was no one in sight. After a few minutes, my riding buddy that day suggested we just cross. Uh...Bad idea, I said. Finally, a young guy come out of nowhere. He was wearing a cap and mirrored aviator sunglasses. There was a cigarette dangling from his lip. He was wiping grease off his hands. Looked like he had been working on a vehicle. He asked us if we were American citizen and how long we had been in Canada. After we answered, he said, "Welcome home" and walked away. He never asked to see our passport. That was pre-911. That sort of this wouldn't happen today.
This is what the area looks like looking towards the U.S.
AB-62 - Google Maps
Pretty desolate, but there is a little town on the Candian side, about 3KM back with one small general store.
AB-501 - Google Maps
It was the only place to get anything between Magrath, AB and Cut Bank, MT. 72 miles of mostly headwind with no shade. We stumbled into a cafe in Cut Bank and had the biggest pancakes we had ever seen.

Chilly morning so I threw on my PI long sleeve. The best fitting jersey I own. 2011 issue.
The legs were still feeling it from Sunday, especially the knees, so I made it a short one, lest I have to get a professional bike fit.

Interestingly, not far outside of Magrath, where we started the day, is a Hutterite colony. Saw some of them in town when we camped there:

Every time I have gone into Canada the border agent has been icy at best. Crossing from Buffalo to Port Erie on my bike via the Peace Bridge, it was unclear where cyclists should go. We ended up getting yelled at by an official. When we went inside to clear customs, I politely asked the agent for a passport stamp. She literally rolled her eyes at me and reluctantly gave me a courtesy stamp.

My crossings in June went just fine. The agents immediately recognized how trustworthy I am.

Fun fact: Canuck is not a pejorative term in Canada, but might be in the usa....from Wikipedia:
In Canada, the term is not derogatory, and is considered to apply to all Canadians. When used by non-Canadians, especially in the United States, the term is often considered derogatory, particularly when applied to French Canadians in New England.

Even with the squinting? I would have to usher you into the interrogation room just for that.

I'm pretty sure all the birds that used to be here already went south for the winter though.
