Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We live within a 1/2 mile to the outlet mall. Getting out of my neighborhood has been hell today. Weekends will be like this until christmas.

Rode on the road for the first time since the 12th of November. It turns out I'd forgotten an important lesson about riding in the fall and winter - after 2 PM, it only gets colder. I headed out to ride at 2, when it was 60 degrees in San Mateo. I was dressed for 55-60, in a thermal jersey but no base layer or warmers. Usually I figure to feel just a little cool when I start, and later on open zippers as I warm up. Not today!!! It was never warmer than when I started (58 degrees at Canada Rd, and only got colder - 50 degrees in a couple places!!!

The ride itself was nothing out of the ordinary, because I'm coming back from a rest week and a cold, but it was just so nice to be back out on the road again. Next time I'll dress for it!

Well hell, the 127th and possibly final Civil War game isn't on TV here. Guess I gotta head over to the cantina.

I don’t understand the point. Well, I do, but it doesn’t work with intervals which brings me back to not understanding the point.

It works with intervals. It just doesn't work with VERY SHORT intervals. Lag on my system is about 3 seconds, but it's the same at every transition, up or down, so whatever the new power is, the resistance adjusts pretty quickly.

What ever interval session I was doing, not compatible.

It doesn't usually start getting colder until after 4 p.m.

All generalizations suck.

At this weather station, right along my route, it was 57 degrees at 3:14, but 48 degrees by 4:04.

Do you only do one type of interval?

Like I said.

Do we need to have DougRNS comb through his reams of weather data to confirm it?

It feels like it's quick to react if it gets to stop me from recovering. I let off for one second . Like the pedals are imbedded in concrete. Bam! Then it takes forever to get to zero watts and unlock. I guess I'm getting a workout, but I've had kinder exwives.

Well, it won't work for anything with less than about 30 second segments, but beyond that, as long as you keep pedaling it keeps you at the right power. I find it MUCH, MUCH easier than playing the overshoot/undershoot/overshoot/undershoot/overshoot game with power. I find it less distracting to just push the pedals and try to keep going

This right here, coming off the interval everytime was a freaking nightmare. I would rather over shoot under shoot. Honestly, getting the feeling of what the power should feel like. Last week for instance, outside the first couple of intervals were over/under but by the third interval I had it dialed in and didn’t even have to look.

I received some Ultegra pedals today, 8k's. ,to replace the worn out 7800's on Contador. The 35 or so grams saved brought him back under 16 lbs.I figured out the Force wifly derailure, Force cassette and Rival chain have all contributed to his "weight problem".
I put a pair of Bucklos spd sl pedals on the trainer bike. That was a good $25.00 purchase. Regular price is $30.00 for them and at 272 grams they're not to bad. Thats lighter than 105's! The best thing is once I'm clipped in I don't think about them until I'm done. No noises. No missed clip ins. My old 540's crackled and popped constantly. Way nicer to ride now.

Personally I hate erg mode. When doing intervals on zwift, I just do them in "free ride" mode and plan my ride around certain segments, sorta like you would IRL
