Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

ERG Mode: Riding :: Autotune : Vocals

It clamps in and is not natural. I dislike both, but that’s just, like, my opinion, man.

It’s chilly out. Current temp is 25F and ride-start temps won’t be much higher. It’s supposed to go above freezing about 1-1.5 hours into the ride, so it’s a perfect day to use the electric heated gloves.

For rides that are mostly or all below freezing, I have to use mittens + glove liners as my fingers are fairly sensitive to the cold. I have tried several other gloves that are “rated” to -5C but they are only good for me at/above the freezing point.

An 81 mile, 5K feet ride with people who are all faster than I am or a 62 mile, 2300 feet ride with less speedy riders? Hmmm.

For our final ride in Arizona, my wife and I are riding to Tubac where the movie "Tin Cup" was filmed. Sort of a cute little artist town that happens to have a golf course.

From past rides:

Pro tip: Latex gloves under your glove liners.

Wind this morning was absolutely ridiculous. I didn’t even know it was supposed to be windy.

Anyways, zone 2 on the checkpoint. The last 10 miles was straight into the wind, most of that 10 miles was in zone 4 just keep moving forward. At 250 watts my speed was only 8 miles per hour. At 170 watts I wouldn’t be moving.

Do you guys actually enjoy riding in that kind of weather? You guys should get some sort of award . I'd rather do a 4 hour trainer ride

About to roll out. There is also club #2 but their Saturday rides are usually too short. Fun, friendly, but less than 40 miles. I can still decide when I get to the start and see who is doing what.

Did you try quickly shifting to a smaller gear? That has worked for me. It gives you a chance to get back up to the right wattage while the trainer adjusts to the cadence.

it’s love hate. If I wasn’t on a time crunch it wouldn’t have mattered, It doesn’t help that the wind tends to shift constantly, so no matter how I adjust my route I seem to have a head wind. I pulled out of my neighborhood and noticed the wind coming from the west. So I rode into it for 5 miles and then made a box pattern back in the direction I came, thinking I would have a tailwind for 15 miles. Nope.

I weighed in at 147 lbs this morning. The horror. Too much pecan pie? IDK.

A couple days of healthier eating and hydration and I should be back down a couple lbs.

Lilly slept from 10:00 to freaking 5:30 AM last night. That's a record. This morning, she has a happy, smiley disposition. Hopefully we have a couple days or more of a happy, sleepy baby on our hands. Awesome.

It appears that way in Georgia at least. I'm not sure what happens in the bay area with its micro climates.

Yes, we do. We had a really good ride. There were 8 riders and we all stayed together. It did not get above freezing until halfway into the ride. It helped that it was sunny and light winds.

That said, everyone had their tolerance zone. One of our regulars skipped today because it was too cold for him. The irony is that he is from upstate NY which is much colder than here.

So obv, ymmv.

I went to college in the PNW. So, not serious cold like that, but much colder and wetter. There would be a couple months over winter with highs in the 40's on average. And lots of rain. I was tougher back then regarding riding in inclement weather. When I moved back home to San Diego, that toughness went away pretty quickly haha

Third consecutive day of outdoor rides! This time, an easy hour on the MTB. Some steep ramps that require some wattz to stay on the saddle, but otherwise chill. Pretty techy/heavy route with only ~15 or so min on pavement. Tomorrow I will return to my regularly scheduled Sunday Zwift racing.
