Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Today’s assignment was cleaning and refilling all the water bowls for the birds. Lots of birds. Lots of bowls. But I had nice company.

A high of 102 today, and we’ve already passed it. I will spend no time in an air conditioned room.

High of 70 today, sunny. very slight onshore breeze, about 65% humidity. Should be like this for the next several months, before we reach our peak heat which may top out in the high 80's. It's rough out here .

Friend has planned a birthday ride for his 60th this coming Saturday. I like the roads he has chosen but there are some steep-ish sections. This is the kind of ride I've always jumped at but this time I'm....concerned. I've been using a 34x29 low gear for everything (except the Eastern Sierra) for 12 years. I'm getting to the point of wanting lower a gear for the rides with steeper stuff late in the ride. I have a granny gear on the Gunnar and I could take that bike. Took it out today and did a little climbing with it. Meh.

OMG, a bar is opening in Scottsdale with 4 curling ice sheets in it. I might have to get out there to check it out before all the Canadien snowbirds come back in the winter.

Ooh they got duckpin bowling too.

Mostly hosers from BC/AB/SK but we do get the occasional Quebecois snowbirder who hates that Fla. humidity.

Especially Scottsdale. Working in Peoria I saw a few Canadiens but out in North Scottsdale, Halloween to the end of Spring Training it almost feels like you're actually in Canada.

I don’t know the preferred spelling but when we are in Green Valley we ride with many.

In Cancun they go as far as putting US$ in the atm s. And Cancun is on Eastern time while the rest of the country is on Mountain time(except the border states)[Central time with no dst]. They would rather the rest of the country is confused than the tourists. Tourists confuse easily. Just ask trainsnorter.

7:07 pace today for my weekly 15' jog. Almost skipped it too since we were butting up on dinner prep time, and I was feeling lazy and unmotivated. But I felt peppy like right away, negative split the whole time too, well under 7' pace by the end. One of these weeks I'll find a track, do a warmup mile and then just pin it. No freaking clue what I'd do on my 15' weekly jog training. Sub 6' for sure. But how close to 5'?
