farken pommies hey !!
March 23: Men’s cross-country mountain bike race Results 1 Liam Killeen (England) 2.13.11 2 Oli Beckingsale (England) 0.15 3 Seamus McGrath (Canada) 0.32 4 Chris Jongewaard (Australia) 1.59 5 Kaschi Leuchs (New Zealand) |
jeez, did Kabush even race??
|
dunno, he ripped all these guys apart at Oceania's didn't he? He was the obvious favourite, maybe he is ill ?
|
hes been stand out fastest on the NORBA scene and other races in the USA, like so far infront hes in a class of his own. wierd. maybee the sideburns are slowing him down!
|
Yeah, but NORBA is dead. Being big in the US means there's at least 20 Euros, Poms, Canucks and Aussies ahead of you on the world stage :D You think Kabush would fair well against Absalom or Sauser and the like? I don't think I've ever seen him race against those guys.
|
he's not that bad. he beats plenty of these guys at Norba too, they all race for US teams.

Holy shiessen. Thomas Frischknect must be 40 years old by now! How old is he?
|
he's 36 and still kicking hard !
|
Yay Rosara Joseph - smart (Rhodes scholar,) cute and a handy rider.
And Gordy had a blinder in the TT the other day as well in case I never mentioned it. As for the kiwis on the piss, it's been passed off as a storm in a teacup, or as a local radio station tells it "4 gold medals and 1 golden shower". Alcohol and sports people has never been the best combination, ask the locals of Coffs Harbour :D |

(Not that there's any logic involved in this type of comparrison, but what the heck). Ah, that Arete Ti I showed off yesterday just left the den, fellas. Sad to see her go, would've been nice to keep that one for myself. |
What an afternoon!!
Ferociously hot at the track, Jongewaard & co sprinted from the start, really hammering the first few laps which got him out to 1:25 at one stage but I was wondering if he could last at that pace. Once the Pom and Canuck dropped Sid, they really went to work on Chris. I've got to have a ride around that course, looks like hell in some places... got to get a decent digital camera too. from what ive read kabush had a big one on the 1st or 2nd lap( that wasnt shown on teevee ) hence why he was so far back.

I dunno if this has been pointed out yet but this frame is nuts link
"he 100% carbon fibre frame made from Easton’s "CNT“ Carbon Nanotube Technology" and .... "BMC says the new SLC01 frame weighs in at 960 grams (2.11 lbs)" pretty nuts, but for me I wouldnt buy it. Give me steel, lots of steel from the starry skies above, do not give me carbon fibre |

I'll be racing on the C.Coast this weekend.
I'm sailing a two day regatta at Tookley SC, :D ........ and camping 'on site' Canton Beach. :) |

They will be able to neutralise the attacks. Downing won a few races last year before breaking his collarbone when his Recycling team went over to race the Wachovia pro series. He will sneak under the radar, no one will know his face. If Fraser, Henderson or Hunter make it to the finish they probably have the chops to beat anyone bar Davis. And Davis will need to be well positioned or they can knock him off. Walker, Gerrans and especially Hayman have the speed to match if they get some luck and a better run, but straight up the others are known fast men who will win a match sprint. Punt Road looks to be a mini San Fransico GP hill climb. It must almost hit 15% at the steepest and they cannot take a run at it with the turn off Alexandra Av. Those Guyanans might have to walk it by the 15th lap. I think Walker will win on Punt road, and a 4 k solo like Carrigan, while the bunch of 6 or 7 look at whomever wants to chase. Davis playing the Golan role, except he wins the kick for second. Or it will be torn apart completely and the South Africans will be gotten rid of. |
the podium will be out of Davis, Walker, Hayman, Cox, Hunter.
Punt Road will be where the crucial break is made, about 7th lap. The win will be made on the 10th lap, then it is 11 laps on Punt Rd. Walker will go. Cox will try and match him, and Davis Hayman and Hunter will be behind him. The second last lap, be on Punt road, that is wher I will be ;) Walker will continue his rise and beat the Protour hitters Hunter and Davis. |

I've got a cateye double halogen setup, with the brick (lead acid) battery. Have any of you swapped out the battery for something lighter, and with a quicker charge time, and longer burn time? Seriously, Lithium has many pros. Extremely high cycle life, linear voltage discharge, very high energy density (lightweight), robust. It also has some nasty gotchas for the unwary. You could go with 3-cell LiPoly or LiIon. LiIon is better for low current apps such as lighting. 3 series LiIon cells would give you a nominal terminal voltage of 10.8V. Try to get a pack around 5AH capacity. Expect to pay around $200. To charge it you WILL ABSOLUTELY need an intelligent charger. I suggest the Novatech B8070 which will auto charge LiIon and LiPoly in both serial and parallel configurations. This charger is around $50 at good model stores, say HStore (do a google search). Try to get a battery pack with a cell breakout connector on it (HStore has them). The Novatech charger is one of the few chargers which is capable of using this connector to parallel charge the cells. Expect a charge time of about 2 hours (no less with any Lithium chemistry - it's a constant voltage charge profile). LiIon is more robust than LiPoly but has a higher impedance and cannot deliver as much current. About 1C is it's safe limit, so your 5AH battery will deliver 5A, which should light up the road ahead, and the next 'burb too!! LiPoly can "kick ass" seriously, around 20C discharge rate. A modern 5AH pack ought to be able to deliver 100A if it's kept cool. Competitive modellers do this all the time. Really good if you want a searchlight on your bike!!! The disadvantage of LiPoly is a capacity loss of about 50% over 2 years, independent of it's amount of useage. In either case, if you are cavalier about charging series connected Lithium chemistry batteries they will catch fire and burn your house down. Seriously. This is a big deal in modelling circles and there are many stories of modellers burning down their houses, workshops, cars, etc. You can't put the fire out either - water makes it burn better!!! The absolute safe way to charge is to break out the cell connections and charge the cells in parallel. The charger I suggested will do this. A fire WILL NOT occur if you use this charger. Any modeller doing competitive electrics, heli or aero, should be able to help you - the modellers have got this technology nailed!! Hope this helps. |

Hang on, Kabush had a big stack at Lysterfield? What? Bwahahaha!
Track ain't that hard, AND the guy is riding an FS! And as for the Poms, mate, England is a harsh place to ride. Brecon Beacons, parts of Wales...so steep you can't even WALK up. You don't need massive mountains to be a good cycling nation. Hello? Australia? I want to credit card mountain bike tour the Pennine Way. Ride yourself silly during the day, Stay in an 16th century pub and drink Stones' Bitter all night. Perrrrrfection! |

its all relative, only takes a minor mistake to end up OTB. example, the weekend, just dropped concentration for a second and ended up otb. from what the pros were saying, Lysterfield is quite un - techy, but that means the faster you go the cleaner you have to get it to make it fast which is the big challenge. ive never ridden there so i really dont know, mot race courses in and sydney are quite technical.

more importantly, do you think ill make it up those hills and back with the c group? On your first ride just pace yourself. The group always waits for the 'fallen'. By the time you've done it 2 or 3 times you'll start to get the hunger to be more competitive on the climbs. And that's what the rides are about: measuring your improvement against your fellow riders. The ride is only 2 hours and averages a tad under 30kmh for C Group. 30-35kmh is quite easy in the group, the hard parts are the numerous climbs and rises. All good fun |
speaking of those guys (Peleton sports), anyone have an e-mail contact for the web leader or someone who can put up the info about our 2006 road calendar. The new website thing they have going on is hard to use.
