Who wants to watch Empire Games cycling when they can watch 24/7 of Brooke Hanson and Jana Pitman

I saw Sarah Ulmer at the 04 Track Worlds. Sarah Ulmer makes me feel all tingly........

jock 03-07-06 04:53 PM

Should I report that last post as SPAM, vette? This is the AUSSIE thread after all :D

Bloody hide of some ppls. Ulmer will be crying big tears when the local girls mop the floor with her. :p

62vette 03-07-06 05:07 PM

Someone's gotta keep you lot honest :p

Sarah's got a lot of expectations to live up to after winning the nationals and the recent tour and world cup race, least of all her own. Then there's the commercial side of things - she's now riding and pushing her own brand of bike (SUB - Sarah Ulmer Brand, womens' specific,) flogging the supposed healthy options from Chez Ronnies and promoting several womens' cycling events round the country. Apparently she still turns up to the Saturday bunch rides in Hamilton on occasion to whip the fast boys into shape.

I'm sure everyone will still love her even if Oenone or one of the other Australian girls gets lucky :D

They'll need luck, pace, and heaps of herbs. Ulmers been on top of her game for a while now. Tree is not looking shaky at all.

yeah, I got one. I think it's Tange 4. It used to be my main commuter bike; now it's got junk on it, and it's the bike I lock up & leave without worrying about

Hey Aussie, what happened to Ed

Odin 03-07-06 09:14 PM

Youse blokes, what's the deal with Cats and Grades?
Just wondering cos 99% of the people on this forum use Cat. Are they directly comparable as in :

Cat 1 = A
Cat 2 = B
Cat 3 = C
Cat 4 = D
Cat 5 = E

That how it works?

HDTVKSS 03-07-06 09:23 PM

Yup Odin thats right, the yanks use Cat instead of grade. seems they have a regimented system of promotion, at least from cat 5 to 4 as well which i dont think exists here.

jock 03-07-06 09:28 PM

For CNSW road events they generally use State Grades (A-F) for events that have a set closing date for entries, Divs for larger events where late entries can be taken on the line. Divs allow them to distribute riders of similar ability evenly, depending on the numbers entered for each grade.

For example you might find something like this:

Div1: A Open Grade
Div2: A2 + B1
Div3: B2 + B3 + C1
Div4: C2 + C3
Div4: D + E

Club Grades are generally (artificially) higher than State Grades. Eg. A Club B Grade crit rider might be State D or E grade for road events.

And our Divs and Grades do not relate directly to US Divs.

Dunno how it works in other states

no, very different. Club grades don't represent too well to that system. The US system is national so basically if you are a Cat 1 in the US you are almost a Pro rider.

Somewhere along the line you could be ranked Nationally in Australia to A,B,C etc. which would line-up somehow to Cat 1, 2, 3 etc...

I never got above Cat 3 in the US and race A/B here at club level, State level? never ridden a State race but usually would end up around C Grade somewhere I'd say.

climbo 03-07-06 10:07 PM

Also, Cat 1-5 across everybody makes each grade very competitive, no A1, A2 all the way down to G or whatever we have here as the last category.

In NJ/PA we had no less than 50 riders in every Cat 3 race, bigger races filled up with 100-120 rider limits. The good thing was they sometimes ran Cat 1-2-3 races + a Cat 3 separately so you could ride against the nasty quick guys if you wanted.

So Cats are roughly equivalent to our state grades... which are a couple of points off club grades ie: Club A = Nat C.
I'm just after a yardstick so's I know what the hell everyone 'round here's on about.

Thanks guys.

13 or 14 CCCC riders went up. Silver to Aaron in the juniors, gold to Matty Brown in the Elites, Masters2&3 clean sweep: gold Grant Fraser, silver Troy McDonald, bronze yours truly, 4th Brad Craft. Didn't hear all the results for Masters 4&5 but I know Ray van Schie picked up 4th and the Rev 5th.

Excellent fun

I think they're trying to incorporate those new super DVD drives (BluRay) into the PS3.
