What Race - road tyres are you guys using / recomend? have been told that bang for back the Continental 4000's are the way to go, with the vitorias being better but with much less durability. any comments?

Also, a while ago somone posted a link to a tyre shop that i think was based in the states that had rediculously good prices for tyres, anyone know what it was? i thought i saved it in my links but no such luck.

Expat, want to export some tyres? :P

Brian 04-19-06 10:15 PM

We've only got tires over here, but I understand that once they're exported, they become tyres. The only ones I can send are folding ones, the wire bead ones are too big. Also, they have to go by ship (4-6 weeks) in order for the freight to be reasonable.

On the other hand, I may be securing a deal to get all sorts of non-bike stuff at wholesale. I'll keep you guys updated on that. PM if you need a quote for anything.

mrkott3r 04-19-06 10:20 PM

so do you have a website up and running yet expat?
Sorry for getting around the swearer preventer, those things **** me off!

Brian 04-19-06 10:27 PM

Dude, I've got 2 different sites in various states of development, and I'm shooting for a wholesale on ebay thing too. But it's past my bedtime. Take care of Jock. He's old and brittle, but wise. Jock= the Yoda of cycling.

I have been sitting and pondering some deep philosophical questions this afternoon. Questions like .... "what is the point of The Aussie Thread?" .

After cogitating for some nanoseconds, I came to the conclusion that this thread is pointless.

Unfortunately, it is also strangely addictive (in an existentialist kind of way).

I think it's time we all started calling ourselves Bruce.

cheers,
Bruce

ok, that's the Ferntree Gully side of the Tourist Rd., right?

From where to where? How far up?

I like them kinda chaglenges :)

Odin 04-20-06 01:02 AM

Mountain Hwy from The Basin to Sassafras. There's a few 90+kg guys in EVCC that go up it in the 16's
It's just under 7km.

Wilchemy 04-20-06 01:16 AM

Yep Odin is correct, that's the one. I think most people start timing at the 60km sign just after the shops at the bottom and stop timing at the 60km? sign at the top (about 150m before the T intersection). Very popular local climb for the eastern/southern side of town riders (see cycle2max.com)

Have you had a timed crack at it Odin?

Yeah, but only once which is a bit strange cos I live up here... there are much nicer climbs around here.
It took me 20:30 but that was before I started racing and I know I'm a fair bit stronger now - I've dropped over a minute orf other climbs since racing. I'll have another crack at it soon.

Yeah, I'd like to know what any of youse blokes reckon on GP4000's too.
I've used Michelin Pro-Races in the past but they seemed a bit fragile and I got sick of flats.
I've been using Schwalbe Stelvio's since last year and apart from barely any flats (that's gone and done it) they're lasting really well - 3000km's and still looking good. I use 'em for commuting, training, racing, getting the milk etc etc. Probably not much bling factor but hell, I want to ride on 'em, not look at 'em.

+1 for the Schwalbe; 5000kms, 1 puncture in that time. Front tyre has a significant cut in it and the rear has some damage on the side wall - but has been like that for about 2000kms and no flats! I have even ridden over a broken beer bottle!!!!

However, having said that, I am fully expecting a flat tomorrow.........
