I think Giramonda have real chamoiseses. Until Odin bought his Eastern Vets Giramondo knicks, I had no idea the company was in Melbourne!

They sell good quality knicks direct to the public for $85

That pretty much sums it up.

Thylacine 04-20-06 11:03 PM

Yeah, I hate it when I deliberately run into cars. I feel so sorry for the motorists involved. It must be heartbreaking for them

Anyway, as I think Shackleton or someone said "Gentlemen, I may be gone for some time", so wish me good luck as I attempt to ADSL up my new computer. Hopefully I'll come out the other side.....faster....stronger....and better looking. :)

Sir Lunch-a-lot 04-20-06 11:20 PM

Bah! Stronger high speed makes one not. Patience and character does dial up build.

Thylacine 04-20-06 11:31 PM

Well, that couldn't have been easier. My dial-up days are gorn! Jaysus, it took like 2 minutes to set up.

Zooooom!

Wow, pages load instantaneously. :)

mrkott3r 04-20-06 11:37 PM

Well, I spoke to my mate who's up to speed with all this crap, so we checked out whirlpool.net.au or whatever and decided to go with Exetel. It's 49 bucks a month for 512/128, 8gb of data, excess is ramped and costed out at 3 bucks a gig thereafter. It's a pretty bare bones service, but it's so easy to set up (he says now) I don't know why I didn't do it sooner. *crosses fingers*
We were going to get a modem/router seperately, but ended up just buying a NetComm NB5Plus4 modem/router off Exetel as part of the package. Think it was only 105 bucks or something. Got 4 ethernet ports so you can attach as many computers as you like, and Exetel doesn't smack your bum for doing so.

mrkott3r 04-21-06 12:32 AM

nice Im with internode 39.95 a month 512/128 8gig a month (I think you mean 16gig for the money you pay?) Node is good, heaps of free content that I actually use.
Mate you will love bittorrent once you figure out how to use it. Im not saying anymore on that topic already been sin binned for saying more about bittorrent before. But the info is out there and easily gettable

There is a memorial ride for past cyclists every Good Friday where I live, organised by the local Cycle Action group. I went on it for the first time this year, huge turn out.

Interestingly I learned that the cycle Action group was a direct spin off from a local cyclist getting killed in traffic, and they have lobbied the local council to commit to spending $9m over the next 10 years on improving cycling facilities in the region.

We have cycle lanes popping up all over the place now. It's a pity that it takes a tragedy to get people to wake up and take action though eh :(

Just ignore them ... I quite like the accent - which part of Scotland, BTW.

don't tell the advocy people this, they will tell you bike lanes are more dangerous :S
Is it shared lanes or full bike lanes. Personally Im against shared lanes

62vette 04-21-06 01:04 AM

Full bike lanes on the road (not footpath) which really just helps motorists use their scones a bit more and gives the cyclists a wee bit more space. I won't use the shared use jobs as you just end up playing dodge the pram pushing walking groups.

I've been using Schwalbe Stelvio's since last year and apart from barely any flats (that's gone and done it) they're lasting really well - 3000km's and still looking good. I use 'em for commuting, training, racing, getting the milk etc etc. Probably not much bling factor but hell, I want to ride on 'em, not look at 'em.

MPR's are definitely over rated, over priced and fragile. The Stelvios I had on the Orbea were good but when the rear one got sidewall damage resulting in a 'bulge', I replaced them with Vitoria EVO KX as a general ride tyre and they are bullet proof. Patitcularly good in the wet. I also ride Vitorias on my GT and MS and they're all very good. I don't ride my race tyres on the road.

Yeah, he's got a lovely accent. Which is good, because you're lucky to understand one in 4 words he says. :)

How can they be overpriced for $35?

where at, Probikekit?:p

Michelin Pro Races are $98 at Cecil Walker (http://www.cecilwalker.com.au/category94_1.htm), and their prices are better than most.

98 BUCKS FOR A FARKIN TYRE!!!!!!
I can get an Open Pro rim for less than that.
The Vredestein equivalent is about $55 in shops

62vette 04-21-06 03:03 PM

I now buy all my tyres from probikekit or equivalent, like the blacksac says $35 MPRs are my race tyres. However I train on wire bead 700x28C Vittoria Randonneur, no punctures in about 9 months to date.

I pay $98 for car tyre, and that's at family discount rates, but not for my bike :(
