Regarding that annoying little danasoft.com sniffer thing - if you are running Firefox, you can go into Tools/Options/Content/Load Images then click Exceptions and put in the website, and voila! the little buggers disappear. (and Norton has stopped detecting intrusion attempts, so I guess the code is blocked as well)
Don't know how you do it with other browsers, but I guess there must be a similar feature. |
I'm running Safari on a Mac. Glad danasoft went to all that trouble or I might not have known.
Anyone got any ideas on how to sell my old demo singlespeed? I had it on ebay for a pawltry 1300 bucks, had 9 watchers and nobody bid. I hate Australia, it's ****ing impossible to sell anything except **** in this ****ing place   |
Haha.
Windows users are funny. So Paranoid. With good reason I might add. Ok, heres how it works. The IP and other details are only seen by you, as it is a little bit of javascript which runs on the page once it's loaded on your computer(client side). On the script that Tom has it only shows me info I already know, and you can't see it. It only shows your own details. I know bernys IP address now though because he just posted it in the forum. ;) IP addresses aren't private. Everytime you hit a web page it logs your IP against the request. Thats how we get stats on who surfing the web and our pages. By the way if your don't want virus's worms etc. Stop using IE6. That browser is half the problem. Or better still switch to a Mac or Linux OS. |

 Sorry, that was bit harsh. But that's the aussie market for you. |
Is it any suprise that the alternative definition of 'Microsoft' is 'small and flacid'?
:roflmao: Yeah, maybe I should put a Spoken sticker on it and say that Malachai touched it? :roflmao: Ah yes, it's THAT kinda Monday! |
lets not open thw win vs OSX vs linux debate. The only reason apple doesnt have virii is because no ones uses it. Its built on old unpatched unix code. Its a disaster waiting to happen.
|
Royale, if you had teenage relatives using your system you'd be paranoid too. :)
I never use IE and would delete it from my system if I could. Next computer purchase will very likely be a Mac. Linux? Yeah it's good, just too lazy to change over, I guess. |

Did you know that apple offered a US$100,000 bounty to anyone who can compromise a standard install of OS X. You know what? No one has done it yet. Most people who try this arguement are rarely in a position to comment on it, as they have only ever used MS products. |

when you hear this sound, duck and cover |
It's un-Australian not to use a Mac. I believe it's part of the new sedition laws.
|
Yeah, windows isnt as bad as some people make out (mac addicts) it does have some problems like not asking you when executing/installing code (mac and linux do). If win dumped the registry it would be a lot more secure, but failing that asking you when installing crap will prevent a ****load of trojans/adware etc.
At least with windows there is a lot of software available |

Anyway, kinda hard not to give my 2cents. Yeah i dont like Toms signature, but no offence, it gives me an insight into the kinda person. Sorry Tom but what is the/your point?. If you want to feel like a non-conformist etc great do it in your own time and dont impose all that "I know your computers secrets" crap on others! On mac vs linux vs unix: I dont think Microsoft really deserve the bagging they get, to use a bike analogy it's the same reason Trek, Giant & Lance cop flak in BF, tall poppy syndrome. If MS was to turn open source would that cure all wrong doings:rolleyes: Just try out all the other flavours to see which one you like best. |

However, Norton keeps telling me it is detecting an worm intrusion attempt from my computer to the danasoft.com website. This means there is some code embedded in that signature and I for one do NOT like that. |
Yeah, all the anti-trust lawsuits are just 'tall poppy syndrome'
The reason Trek, Giant and Lance et al cop flak is because they're Tupperware - Corporate, bland, characterless entities, running a close second to the 'Myth of the Italian bike company'. |

Unless you have, you have no grounds to make comment on this subject. All you have in marketing hype. |
Hmmm. Tiger, ship me that bike, and you'll get your money out of it.
As far as the whole IP thing - I can see everyone's. That means I know who is pissing away their employer's money, and who's at home. |

Regarding, the second point, in IT for 15 years, my wife and I work for 2 of the three OS's you describe So I think I can make a comment. But I forgot if it aint bespoke then flame it...right? |

Thats a bit harsh dude. Sure, you're in a good position because you've now had extended experience with all 3 in aprofessional environment, but I don't think I need 12 months solely on a Windows box to know how average it is in every way.
I'm by no means a zealot - there are things on every program/OS I wish were all condensed into one 'Super App/OS' - but OSX is such a joy to use and so intuitive and rock solid, I don't see why anyone would use Windows unless they're a tight-arse or absolutely have to use some obscure Windows specific software, in which case you'd probably be better off having a dedicated Linux box anyway. Actually, after spending 6 months or so on a brand new 20" iMac when I was working for Monash, I'd go so far as to say just get an iMac and be done with it - 2500 bucks will get you a 17" tft, 2 gig of RAM and a 180G HD. 3200 will get you the 20" with 2 gig ram and a 250G HD. All the computer you will ever need. (Well, until Moores Law bites you in the arse.) pshaw, royale is a developer with years of experience on all platforms, so although his opinions are forthright, they hold water. There's nothing 'bespoke' about Apple either, they're a ****ing corporation turning over millions of dollars. If that's your idea of 'bespoke', there's this cool bike company called Cervelo you should check out. |

Pshaw (Bsc software engineering) I just dont see the point in getting all hot about it. At home I use what I choose. At work I use the tools provided to do my job. Sometimes they aint the best. Sometimes the things others dont like make them easy for me to work with. FWIW, I'm on a PC (work) now, we also have a mac (work) & a linux box as a media centre. Oh yeah, and I hate computers. Anyway wanna pay me my salary and let me re-train? |
Back to bikes....
At Calga, A grade did a smoking 1:13 on Saturday, B went 1:18, 5+ mins better than last week. and how's that kid of yours doin? |
on osx, what are you guys using to resize images? I dont have photoshop and by the time ive got a picture down to the kb limit for sites like this using Preview its a bloody thumbnail.
And how bout the new intel macs which can now be partitioned using BootCamp to run osx and XP? Methinks macs market share about to rocket. |
