Also take a **** load of water, most days it will be well over 40 degrees celsius, I wouldnt ride in those conditions.

That's only 104F! That's not too bad, try Death Valley around Baker, Ca! I've seen 129F (53.8C)

My friend has done some seriously epic rides through central oz. He's done that stretch, the nullabor, even Alice to Broome. You don't need GPS or Sat phones! If you like, e-mail me your details to info@thylacinecycles.com and I'll put you in touch with him.

As long as you understand the distances between towns/roadhouses and carry enough supplies, and don't do it in the middle of Summer, you'll be okay. We're not talking riding sand dunes here, it's paved the entire way.

+1 for the Crocodile Trophy!

I would imagine it would be like riding in a sauna while being sandblasted!
You could always go round the world on a singlespeed instead like that crazy Scottish dude.

Hey Matagi, If your hubby is interested in a MTB, I ride most weekends and 1-2 nights with some guys from LBS. PM me if you're keen but I suspect you're road only (like Dr Jock!).
Although thinking about his OTB skills, jock maybe you should get on the MTB, I seem to have developed the reflexes of a cat and always land on my feet.

NO-ONE call me a ***** :p

I love ebay. I just finished listing stuff, and have bids already.

Thylacine 04-29-06 10:19 PM

eBay as opposed to eBay.com.au, which sucks dead dogs.

Ive never understood people bidding early all they are doing is inflating the price for no reason.
Anyone care to explain why my logic is bad

Well, an inflated price is to the seller's advantage and if the buyer has not done his/her homework and pays over the odds for something they could have picked up for half the price at K-Mart, that's their problem.

I think the early bidders are new to Ebay, everyone knows the best way to win something is hit 'em with your bids in the last few seconds.

Of course, if you bid early and bid a little more than anyone else is prepared to pay, then nobody else bids and the item is yours.

So I guess it depends on the item and it's desirability.

mrkott3r 04-30-06 01:14 AM

I dont know, i think they are just idiots. If they bid early the price at the end of the auction immediately goes up. If they didnt place that bid the price would be lower at the end of the auction. Ive never seen an auction where someone bids at the beginning turn away bidders, to me the bidder is kinda bidding against him/herself (if you get what I mean).

Actually that's not quite true if you accept market forces are at work. People will only bid as much as they are willing to pay, so the timing of the opening bid is irrelevant to the final sale price.

The determinant of the final price is how many people there are bidding at the end and what their budgets are. So sometimes you get items going for the maiden bid which was placed the day the item was listed and other times it's a race between bidders to see who has the faster internet access and can squeeze in the final bid.

The ones that really crack me up are the items that sell for more than you would pay for them if you went down to the shops and bought it. Some people really do not have a clue.

Thanks for the offer Pshaw, hubby does have a MTB - it's an old Apollo Himalaya circa 1984, bad news is he is using it as the basis for an electric bike.

jock 04-30-06 04:06 AM

pshaw: thx for the massive vote of confidence :p aoparently i always land on very expensive helmets. another one bit the dust, although this one lasted more than three weeks thank god/buddha/someone.

jock 04-30-06 04:15 AM

picked up a nice deal on a jr race bike. soarer + nice little frame for $500 instead of nearly $800rrp (hush now expat, i know the drill).

guy originally sed $400 and my wallet was out in less than 3 nanoseconds, but then he considered how much trubble he would be in and revised the price. bugger. maybe he didn't expect me to jump at the offer so fast/at all. but $500 ain't too bad given that only 50 bucks less means no brifters

Anyone else getting sperious messages attached to some of the posts? I'm getting a window which say; "you are 211.30.38.190, your isp is com.au, you're running Win 2000 and using IE6."
Then there's some bizzar message which changes as I scroll back and forth**********??? Scary.

berny 04-30-06 06:07 AM

I rode the Sumersby RR circuit today. That is after I found where it was and how it went which only took me *two freekin hours*. What a pisser! The bloody map they have on the CNSW website is almost totally usless.
Pretty crappy track. Peat's Ridge Rd is ok but WF Rd is a bloody goat track! How the hell are they going to put all those riders on there in traffic, which I noted seems to flow quite freely on Sundays.
Coupla good hills too.

Like this? It's just a signature sign. It doesn't hack you or anything like that, it just displays what your computer broadcasts ..to you only...and no one else! The IP, Operating system, browser, and your ISP. It doesn't tell anybody else that info or record or store it in any way, either. You can snag one of these little signs at ****************** if you want. Beware, when you sign up for the codes, they'll of course try to get you to sign up for all kinds of junk. It is kind of neat though, eh? By the what I see on my end is MY info only. Just reassuring you. No you aren't crazy and no your 'puter hasn't caught a bug!:D

Hmmm, that might be your IP address, and I don't know if they're best kept private :)

I'm getting a weird thing sometimes after I edit a post, where the font is Times New Roman, and yeah, there are other little weird ****ies on there, and I can't scroll it.

It's not about economics. Once people understand that, they'll succeed at ebay. It's about psychology. Those early bidders will now start to daydream about how this new part will make their bike look cooler and go faster. It will build up over days, so that by auction end, they have such a huge emotional investment in this item, they'll bid too much, because they can't bear not having it. They've mentally installed it already, they've envisioned themselves picking up hot cycling chicks at Starbucks because of it already. The damage is done, they must over bid. :D

The correct way to ebay is to search by lowest price, then add it to your watch list. Once in a while you go through your list and delete anything bid up too high. The only time you want to consider bidding is in the last 24 hours or less.

I'm not keen on the idea that this info is up there. I'm not convinced that there's no way that it might compromise my security or anyone elses including the user. It might also require more memory requirement from the forum isp.
Tom, can you be sure that when you signed up for this thing there wasn't a worm or spyware planted? Do you have a spyware cleaner? I might add that your little sign is incomplete cause the little guy at the bottom is missing unlike yours Aussie. In any event it's an un-nerving distraction I think I can live without.

matagi 04-30-06 04:40 PM

I don't like it either - it hasn't been picked up by any of my virus, adware or spyware detection programs.

However, Norton keeps telling me it is detecting an worm intrusion attempt from my computer to the danasoft.com website. This means there is some code embedded in that signature and I for one do NOT like that.

climbo 04-30-06 04:49 PM

guys/gals - Evans wins Romandie !!!

Odin 04-30-06 04:56 PM

All of that info is gathered automatically anyway... as well as when you visit, entry/exit pages, kb used, referrers etc etc. It all gets logged on the server.
The script he's using is a type of 'sniffer' - should just be a harmless bit of code - but yep, it's a waste of bandwidth.
If you visited one of my sites, I could tell you quite a bit about you - if I could be arsed going through all the stats :)
