Why do u need a carbon stem Jock?

Our local club president has a spanking new Giant TCR Advanced (the kind with the integrated seat post that you trim to size) that has been recalled to replace the standard carbon stem with an Aluminium one after some poor bugger in Oz had the original stem break in a fairly major (and painful) fashion. I can only assume the fork has a full carbon steerer given the rest of the bling on the bike. As an aside he has made a couple of minor upgrades such as replacing the DA brakes with Zero Gravity jobs ($$$$$$$$$!!!)

i dont. i dont trust carbon.

having said that, the carbon forks on my race bike survived a hefty prang on a pick-a-plank bridge today. they survived much to my surprise, i on the other hand did not. broken collarbone and dislocated pinky (40deg off center, very creepy!!). so i guess the road season is a write off even before it starts. back to crit and track training once i'm mended. yay, no more hills :D

Thylacine 04-16-06 04:03 AM

WTF? I go away for the weekend and HDT gets married and Jock breaks something and someones forks go to carbon heaven????

Congrats and/or condolances to all involved! Yoiks!

Seems to be a run of 'em at the moment:

Sorry to hear it, hope you mend up quick and well.

I have found (depending how bad???) that a broken collarbone is around 3-4 weeks to a ride on the road again and about 2 weeks more until you forget it happened ( adding in variables for bmx or mountain biking). Best of luck.

you busted your collarbone today??!! JEEEZUZ!!!

62vette 04-16-06 03:51 PM

You have my sympathy Jock, I've done that one myself in the past. Like bmx boy says, four weeks and you should be back on the bike, with the first two weeks being a solid diet of painkillers.

You could have left the pinky in its new position, but you'd have to switch from drinking beer to cocktails with umbrellas :p

HDTVKSS 04-16-06 06:01 PM

fark jock that sucks :(

guess it will be a while before i get the chance to get that pump off you! :p

heal fast mate.

mrkott3r 04-16-06 08:03 PM

sorry to here that jock. what bridge was it?

mrkott3r 04-16-06 08:25 PM

I had a really nice 2hr ride today. For those who know Newcastle I toured the beaches (went up Watt street), glebe road, Rode out to Whitebridge, then went home via Bar Beach. Lots and lots of people out. The jaguar rally was stopped at Bar Beach. Some really really pretty classics there. Lucky I had my phone camera on me. (excuse the crapiness of the photos.)

That was probably the best looking car there. XK150 are beautiful

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/9...10166es.th.jpg
There were a few E-types there.

and does anyone know what this one is?

There were a lot of jags there but I only took pictures of the classics.

Thats my ride report for this Easter Monday

wait tiger, there's more...

i was waiting for the right moment to break it to you...

the thylacine shirt... it's... well... not a shirt so much as a rag now! I'm really sorry.

If it's any consolation you'll be happy to know the double layer fabric saved my skin, literally. only the tiniest bit of rash on my back. i'll buy another one once i'm able to put a shirt on, i promise

coming in from kurri, left towards mulbring on the northern end of the road. "White <Sumfing> Rd". Looked rickety but passable from a distance. Looked decidedly tricky on closer inspection. :o

[edit] nice jags BTW kotter. i aways wanted one of those red 4.2 litre ones from around/just before the XJ era.

Brian 04-17-06 06:51 AM

Holy crap! Sorry to hear about your crash Jock. You can still lift a beer with the other arm, so you'll be ok. But I can't believe that pump hasn't been delivered. :D

:roflmao:

I spoke to Climbo yesterday and he told me about Jocks crash, so reading the posts this morning I thought "Jocks done a Hincapie" when I read about the fork. Reading on I realised he must have had a second incident and trashed his race bike FARK!

Sorry to hear about it jock, if its any help I have a turbo trainer you can borrow and I'm keen to develop the track training program.

oh, and congrats HD!

OH, and no baby yet, almost a week late, clearer as slow as her dad!

jock 04-17-06 04:01 PM

Painted all weekend, still got 2 coats on the living room walls, 1 in the hall then we're done... or at least 99%! lots of fiddly tidy up bits, floor to patch up, deck andrailing to fix.
Then onto the garden
