Yeah I was going to carry some zip lock bags of gatoraid to flavour the water I get along the way. The gatoraid/water bidons is a good idea. Get sick of gatoraid after a while.

Blaaa, you're not wrong about Gatorade becoming too much after a while. I alternate the 3 flavours that are available at my local Safetyway.

jeez, 200km -- I've never ridd that far. I've gone off Milo coz I got sick of carrying it. Apart from cost, for me, it's also is about what I can be bothered carrying. I found the sealable plastic bags to be too messy and sticky after a few goes, so I was using empty vitamin containers -- much better -- I can get 150g of Gatorate powder in a large, plastic Cenovis bottle!

On a longish ride, which, for me, is only ~100km, I find it makes a big difference if I take a 5 or 10min break at ~70km to gobble down whatever I have -- or at least roll along. Dropping the intensity probably increases gastric emptying. Anyway, a short break while I'm guzzling or eating seems to give the legs a good chance to 're-group'. If you can take a long break it makes a big difference.

If I run out of stuff, I'll buy another Gatorade or 2, and if that still aint enough towards the end, I'll buy one of those 200g packs of strawberry cream lollies from a servo and a pack of chips for the salt.

If I stuff things up, and don't feel quite right, I'll sit down for at least 10 or 15mins and scoff a couple of packs of chips and about a litre of water

With 2000 riders I'm guessin you won't be able to rely on buying any food along the way.

jock 01-17-06 09:55 PM

Alpine Classic is just a big organised ride. www.audax.org.au/alpine.htm

Brian 01-17-06 09:58 PM

Thanks 531. Guess I'll have to OD on vitamins over the next few days to free up some bottles. ;)

Where you buy that thing jock?

jock 01-17-06 10:01 PM

Woolworths about $2.30 each

Dogs can be had at Woolies and Coles. I think Woolies are 10 cents less.

You're joking, right?

badsac 01-17-06 10:04 PM

Never seen them out here. Maybe I just need to look harder.

BTW, how do you spell bastard? I thouight it was with an A? The friendly spelling checker says it's with an E? Or is that an american spelling?

It took an hour at a slack pace, but I fit it into one box. If we do use it for travelling, I'll swap the fork and get some Q/R cable connectors. Probably cut the packing time in half.

badsac 01-17-06 10:18 PM

Still find it amazing it comes apart like that. What keeps it together normally? I can't see any collars? I also would have though that making the join closer to the lazy buggers seat up the front (half way) would have made the packed up bike smaller?

But yeah, packing up things I love (or worse chucking them out if I don't need them anymore) when moving always makes me real sad. :(

They live in the protein bar and suppliments area that no-one ever goes to. Just ask the prettiest checkout chick if she can help you find your bar.

We just have vitamin c tablets in that section here. Prettiest checkout chick? Youngest one's about 50 I think. Out here if you want to look at horny young fillies you go to Bunnings. I swear the joint's full of stunners!

Here's a shot of the couplers off the S&S website. Came with a custom titanium spanner too. There are 6 on the frame. The tubes that are sticking out also come off. Basically, that whole section between the seats is removable.

badsac 01-17-06 10:32 PM

Ah. So it does. I'm blind. So does it flex there?

Brian 01-17-06 10:39 PM

The tubes with the couplers are actually far stiffer than straight tubing would be. No flex there. But the frame does flex. I can hold the back brake, stand on the cranks real hard, and it will visibly flex. It requires that we spin, rather than mash, but it's a very plush ride.
