Twas me. Ack. What a horrible price for something that's just going to be smothered with my arse. :(

Thanks for looking for me. :)

badsac 04-17-06 04:27 PM

Oooo. Jocko's busted up? Bad work that. :(

So what you do? Try to go over a rickety old wodden bridge with to big of a gap between the boards? Go over the bars? I love getting mental pictures of such carnage. ;)

Wilchemy 04-17-06 05:01 PM

Sorry to hear about your crash, jock.:( Hope the recovery is speedy and the painkillers are "enlightening"!

BTW...anybody got an old STI left hand lever (for front deraileur) lying around unwanted in their shed? Nephew is interested in my old bike but dodgy STI means that it regularly sticks in the big ring & won't change down

I have some old 8 speed shimano shifers, can't remeber what they are (a lower model). If you want them their yours. I threw some rattly mouldy ultegra's in the bin a few weeks ago.

and does anyone know what this one is?

That looks like an XK150 too, judging from the wide grille. How do I know this? Well, I'd like to say that I own one, but unfortunately I know because that car was the inspiration for my final year Automotive Design Studio class project at Uni. Got a great book on them by Philip Porter called "Orginal Jaguar XK" which is well worth having.

Jock, you'll be suprised to hear that I actually don't mind hearing stories of my goodies getting wrecked. It's kinda proof they're actually getting used!

Speedy healing, mate.

Hey, did anyone watch Denton last night?

climbo 04-17-06 06:25 PM

yep, that singer bloke's voice is weird, singing and talking.

matagi 04-17-06 06:29 PM

The Jaguar Drivers Club had their national rally in Newcastle over the long weekend, so that's why the place was spilling over with examples of fine British automotive engineering. :p

I was going to post a picture of our very series 2 E-type FHC (like the one in the post but bright red) but for some reason, I can't post attachments.

jock 04-17-06 06:49 PM

matagi, go advanced and click the paperclip icon to attach files

matagi 04-17-06 06:59 PM

Jock, I tried that, didn't work and for some reason, I can't click on the smilies and have them come up in my posts either (have to do it the hard way and type the shorthand in). Hubby just tried logging in as me on his computer and attachments and stuff all work, so I think my browser has its settings in a knot. I am about to do the dreaded upgrade, so will see how that goes.

Yay! Browser upgrade has solved the problem, so here he is ..... (I hope)

Thanks bmxer. Sounds like what I might be after - it's an 8psd 105 anyway. Will send you a PM.

And just in case it's not what I need, if anyone else has something in the shed don't chuck it out yet:)

the jag drivers club are well, an interesting bunch! My sisters fience is a major car nut and has a series 1 XJ thats really nice, with one catch. it has a worked Holden 308 in it. hence, it wasnt " pure enough " for any of the jag drivers club to notice his existence when he saw them up at newcastle and tried to start a conversation.

pretty sad behaviour from them really.

Wilchemy 04-17-06 07:16 PM

Nice E type matagi. Glad you got the pics to work.

BTW, do Jags come with a plaid coster cap as a standard accessory?;)

was_bmxer 04-17-06 07:42 PM

wow, that car is hot. Must look great being behind the wheel with all that bonnet out there.

I love the dash in those older jags, fighter plane cockpit style. I restored an old ford falcon from 1964 (ex parkes police car) in my early 20's and it cost me heaps for then. The cost of keeping the jag healthy would be a bit more I'd say.

Brian 04-17-06 07:48 PM

Ahh. Let us all wish for one of the 4% of E Types that had the 12 cylinder and manual transmission...

Mate, the 6-cyl XK engine (which was first introduced in 1948) is a magnificent piece of machinery, especially when teamed with multiple SU carbies ;) - far better than any ugly worked American V8. :p

The aim of the club is to promote originality so I'm not surprised the guys weren't interested in his butchered XJ. If he had turned up in a completely original car - even if it needed truckloads of work - they would have been all over him like a rash.

BTW, the E-type has triple SUs whereas the XJ only had twin SUs (although the American ones had Strombergs and the later XJs had fuel injection). Just thought I'd chuck that in - does this qualify me as a car nut? :o

Wilchemy 04-17-06 07:57 PM

Hmmm... I can see no-one here is going to be welcome on the "Living Car Free" forum. :D

Yep the car has great perv value, hubby has been stopped a couple of times by the police, just so they can drool at the car. And boy, does that engine wind up! Unfortunately, hubby enjoys driving it too much so I have only managed to get behind the wheel a few times. :(

You will never recoup the money you spend on restoration - far cheaper to buy a car that has already been done up (which is what we did). Doesn't actually cost that much to look after but then, we do have a hoist in our garage so we can do a lot of mechanical stuff ourselves. We also run on historical registration, so the on road costs are really low.

Only downside, you can't easily fit a bike in the back (just to keep this sort of relevant to cycling)

6 Webers look pretty on a V12...

climbo 04-17-06 08:20 PM

I only know SU and Weber carbs. Are Strombergs the ones that kind of look like little silver inverted teapots?

Strombergs sort of look like an SU that has had the top pushed in.

BTW, do you ski? If yes, where? We go to Park City/Deer Valley every coupla years - we quite like Utah and it's probably one of the few places in the US we would actually consider living. And no, we aren't LDS ;)
