However, if they start breaking down, bin them. I had a 605 V6 that the ignition module failed in and it cost me megabucks to get it running again. One of my mates in Sydney is pathologically opposed to Volvos and their drivers - something of a hangover from 80s motoring in the UK and Oz when Volvos were the then equivalent of today's St Ives/Toorak/Putney tractors (aka the dreaded 4WD.) He came in to work in Sydney one morning laughing because he saw some banker type suited up on a summer's morning in the Volvo, windows up, AC on and smoking a pipe. The epitomy of a #$*T in his opinion. |

Here the new one they want satellite speed limiters. All I see happening: 1. The cost of cars will go up 2. It will do nothing to save lives. Lets face it most fatal accidents occur on our roads because of a lack of driver skill. We are a nation of bad drivers. 3. It will create an industry of people trying to get around it. Think truckies, sales reps, car enthusiasts 4. We still have a bad death toll. But I digress back onto pushbikes. |

hahaha no british car headlights have ever worked. I don't think you need a boot with this style of motoring. |
If you wanted your XKE to handle really well, you couldn't fit anything in the boot other than the sack of sand in there to weight down the rear axle.
And yes I think the dimensions were the same between series 1 and 2, the headlight covers were added and some assorted chrome changes. |

I have a 306, S16, it corners flat as can be. Been planning a 205 gti with a Mi 16 conversion. EDIT: just noticed your in NZ, you have all the nice optioned cars anyway. |
I like your idea of the bike and surf car climbo. I bought my 1986 Corolla Seca Twin Cam two years ago as a "drive and forget" 2nd car & so far it's been serviced once, washed twice & is more fun to hammer around the city in than my wife's X-Trail. Plus I can fit the bike in the back with both wheels on.
But if we are talking European I'll take an Alfa GTV 105 series thanks. |

Cheap and easy to get around satellite too, just shield the transmitter. :D (sales of rolls of aluminium foil will go through the roof) |
Apart from the expensive servicing, when petrol hit $1.50 a litre here, a V6 with an 80L tank costing over $100 to fill was just too much. It's now just hit $1.70 for 95 octane and I shudder even filling up the 206 we have.

Anyways, look out for the Automatic bonnet with the nice bulge, loads of 205 GTI's's were running these back in the day. Another cool trick is to get a 309GTI front faring, cut it in half down the middle and take out a small section. It will bolt straight on underneath the OEM 205 GTI front bumper giving you a nice low front end with twin foglights. Oh, and if you're looking for wheels, did anyone run anything but Fondmetals? check out the 5900 classic with the deep dish! FWIW, I had a renault 5 gt turbo, blew it up twice....great fun. 1.4l 4cyl Turbo, what do you aussies make of that? |
berny i'm out until summertime rolls around again
bruce H = TRACTOR |
sorry berny, had to dash off for my sponge bath.
bruce might be oldish and might have lost his sprint, but he can outlast just about anyone. if you try to drop him he will just catch back up and then return the favour. background: triathlons. body composition: 9 inch nails and iron filings. fav brekky: sailors :D |

another Oz engine; P76 4.2l alloy V8. poor copy of the Rover 3.8. could have been so good too with some gussets to support the crank. can be made to go hard though. had one in my Range Rover for a while. nicely modded it went well. Talking about crap pommie electrics, Rangie seriously tested my patience. |

I've got one of these in my shed, next to a Rover 3.5l, it's the same engine, the block heights are very slightly higher to accomodate the longer stroke. But after all, they are both just a Buick design that Rover bought about a squillion years ago. The most interesting development of this engine is the Repco-Brabham F1 engine that won the world championship in the sixties. And you can't fit one of these on a road bike, atleast not one with 700C wheels. |
The P76 V8's go well into Triumph Stags. Best thing you could do to a Stag... pig of an engine.

Yeah, they're still about, getting a little scarce though. Just the die-hard nutters driving them now. Used to have some customers with concourse winning Stags that were really nice. Those engines were sooo bad but they were also one of the best sounding V8's ever built.

Didn't the Stag or the Dolomite get voted 'worlds worst car' one year? |

The Triumph Herald was definitely ****. There's still a few on the roads here, mostly having been chopped down to convertibles. They have an incredible lock on them though, you can just about turn them in their own length providing you don't break the front suspension in the process.
There's a dude here runs a V8 Triumph TR7 quite successfully in Targa rallying, and there's also a nutter that has wedged a V8 into a Herald  |
fark it!! have picked up a case of the flu, probably brought on by riding in near freezing temps monday morning. guess that means no CCCC road race on sunday :(
